The Wells City Harrier's president set a world record in the long jump 50 years ago - on October 14th 1964 at the Tokyo Olympic Games. That distance of 6.76m is commemorated in the Wells Market Place. Mary was the first British female to win an Olympic Gold medal. At the same games she also gathered a silver in the Pentathlon and a bronze in the 4x100m relay. Short video & biography follows

Great running by Harriers at Bridgend cross-country and at the Mendip Muddle, Pilton Festival Run and Castle Cary 10k

There were some terrific performances on Sunday (October 12th) with some age group winners at Bridgend in the first of the season's Gwent League cross-country matches - Oliver Fox & Isobel Glaisher both won - and Clare Prosser won for the women and was 5th overall at the tough Mendip Muddle whilst Tom Dukes was 1st at the Pilton 10k and Amy Barlow 1st female at the Pilton 5k. The Clive & Angela Thomas October Street 5k race and junior races & course records

We are up and running in the 26th year of the Street 5k road races. The edition on Wednesday October 8th was the 151st edition of the races which Clive Thomas first masterminded way back in 1988. The Series has been renamed the Clive & Angela Thomas Street 5k Series so that we can remember not only Clive, but also Angela who had also been a big motivator and supporter of the races. The race on Wednesday was won by Frank Tickner in a nippy time of 15.09, with first female being Linda Lascelles in 19.32.

Harrier teams compete at English Road Relays whilst others are out competing at Burnham half, Chester marathon and Wessex XC

The u15 girls team finished 6th; the u17 mens team was 12th ; and the Senior mens team 31st at the prestigious English Road Relay Championships at Sutton Park, Birmingham, this past weekend. Well done to all the Harriers!

This past Sunday (September 28th), whilst Oliver Fox was winning at the Taunton 10k, the Harrier team swept to victory at the Mells Scenic 7 mile multi-terrain race, with individual victories for Nathan Young and Clare Prosser, whilst the day before three toughened Harriers set off on their 102 mile racing odyssey known as the Cotswold Way. The previous weekend Ollie Thorner helped Somerset Schools u15 boys gain team bronze medals. in the national multi-events Championships
