Heath Hughes-Davies running his final XC race of the season
It’s been a busy and successful week for Wells City Harriers athletes across multiple events. At the Somerset Inter Area Cross Country Finals in Yeovil, Mendip runners shone, with Sage taking 2nd and Heath extending his unbeaten streak to 13 races while also winning the overall title in the Dave Jones Weston Prom Run series. Meanwhile, three Harriers — Eva Dowden, Bella Gurung, and Zac Dowden — have qualified to represent Great Britain at the European Championships following excellent results at the Pentathlon GB qualifiers. On the road, Zak Hurrell led the Yeovilton 5K Race 1, with Sophie Nicholls winning the women’s race and several runners earning personal bests. In Cardiff, Thomas Webb clocked a speedy 14:58 at the Race for Victory 5K while also representing England in a road 10K in Italy. Many Harriers took on the Great Bristol Run, battling warm conditions to post commendable times. Looking ahead, the Wells Festival of Running returns on 25th May, promising an exciting day of racing. Wells City Harriers had a strong presence across multiple events this month, with standout performances including Tom Webb’s stunning win in the U17 London Mini Marathon, joining an elite list of past winners. The club was well-represented in both the Mini and full London Marathons, with several athletes achieving personal bests in challenging conditions. Meanwhile, Ollie and Elise Thorner impressed in their early-season track and field campaigns in the US, with Elise currently ranked 7th in the world for the 3000m steeplechase. Locally, Harriers performed strongly at the Easter Bunny 10K, Shapwick Bunny Hop, Spring Open at Yeovil, and the Shakespeare and Manchester Marathons. Wells City Harriers have been busy across a range of events this month. At the Newport Marathon on 13th April, Henry Sage, Stephen Nicholls and Louisa Saunders represented the club. That same day, Harriers also tackled the hilly Pen Selwood 10K, with Graham Goldsmid leading the team home. Over in Belgium, Alexander Coombs raced the European Half Marathon Championships in Leuven, finishing 5th Brit. At the AOC College Championships in Nottingham, Evelyn Wigley and Amelie Cook helped the Southwest secure team gold. Fell runners were also active, with Paul Chadwick and Andrew Pate competing in challenging Dartmoor and Peak District races. Meanwhile, the Couch to 5K group led by Sharon Bowles continues to thrive, showing great spirit and progress into their third week. Finally, the club invites all members to complete a short survey to help improve the club experience—every response counts!

Kim Clark tackling The Big Cheese
Several Wells City Harriers showcased impressive performances across a variety of events in early April, from cross country to triathlons, off-road races, and road running. Heath Hughes Davis extended his winning streak in the Mendip Area Primary Schools XC series, while Rowan Kelly secured back-to-back victories. Sage Onitiri and Bella Gurung also triumphed in the girls' races. Heath also triumphed in the Inter-School Cross Country relay. At the Yeovil Half Marathon, Matt Lusby finished 5th overall in 1:15:01, with Rosie Park leading the female Harriers. On April 6, Matt Lusby placed 2nd in the Big Cheese fell race, and Tim Ingle finished 4th at the Ilminster 10K, where Rachel Glaisher took the First Female V50 title. Kieran O’Connell earned a bronze medal at the Torbay Spring Triathlon, completing a strong start to the month for the club.
