Graham and Paul have both helped coach and develop hundreds of junior runners
It has been another busy and successful period for Wells City Harriers, with athletes competing across track and field, road, multi-terrain and triathlon events. Junior athletes impressed at the Yeovil Evening Open, while the Monday junior coaching programme celebrated another successful year of development. Special recognition goes to Graham Goldsmid and Paul Chadwick, who step back from coaching after more than 20 years of helping develop hundreds of young athletes. We take a look at some of their memories during this time.
There were standout performances across all levels, including Yeovil Olympiads moving to the top of the National Athletics League, victories for Sophie Nicholls and Tom Webb over 5000m, and championship success for Oskar Beck, Casper Rawbone and David Hall. Harriers also achieved strong results on the roads, with wins for Tim Ingle and Adam Gibson, alongside success for Kieran O’Connell at the English Riviera Triathlon.

Elise Thorner retained her British title in a new championship record.
It was another memorable week for Wells City Harriers, headlined by Elise Thorner successfully defending her British 3000m steeplechase title in championship record time at the Novuna UK Athletics Championships. Elsewhere, members competed across a wide range of events, from the Hyrox World Championships in Stockholm to the Longest Day Run at Glastonbury Abbey and the fast new Martock 10K course, producing impressive performances and age-group successes. The club also paid tribute to former Harrier Wayne Speake, whose achievements and encouragement left a lasting mark on generations of runners.

Wells City Harriers enjoyed another outstanding week of competition, highlighted by Elise Thorner’s superb second-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase at the Stockholm Diamond League, where the GB international clocked 9:11.01, her second-fastest time ever. Closer to home, club athletes delivered a host of impressive performances across road, trail and track events, including Adam Gibson’s victory and personal best at the Yeovilton 5K, Tom Addison-Wood’s win at the Neroche 10K, and a series of strong results at the South West Athletics League.

It was a great turnout at our AGM and Club Awards evening
Wells City Harriers members gathered in impressive numbers for the club’s Annual General Meeting and Awards Evening, celebrating another successful year of achievement across all age groups. The event recognised outstanding performances, dedication, and contributions from athletes, coaches, volunteers, and supporters, while highlighting the continued growth of the club’s thriving junior section, which now regularly attracts up to 70 young athletes to training sessions.
Away from the awards, Harriers athletes continued to enjoy success in competition. A host of personal bests were recorded at the YOAC Evening Open meeting, with strong performances across the middle-distance events and junior triathlons. On the roads and trails, club members featured prominently in Somerset Series races, including the challenging Race the Tide / Chase the Train event and the hilly Crewkerne 10K, where Tom Addison-Wood claimed victory and Tim Ingle finished third. Junior runners ready at the Wells Festival of Running
The Wells Festival of Running took place over the weekend, following a packed schedule of racing for the Harriers across a busy few days of competition. We also have reports from the LA Track Fest, where Elise Thorner smashed her 3000m steeplechase PB, the Millfield BMC PB Classic, the National Athletics League fixture at Yate, and a series of local road and trail events including the North Dorset Village Marathon, Portcullis Trail 10K, the Dave Jones Weston Prom Run series, and the debut of the Badrat Bolt in the Somerset Series.
The Wells Festival of Running itself took place on Sunday 24th May 2026, attracting more than 900 runners across a 5K, junior 1.2K race, and 10K, alongside an under-8s event on the Cathedral Green supported by Wells Rotary Club. Despite soaring temperatures, the event delivered a fantastic atmosphere throughout, with strong crowds lining Wells High Street and the finishing straight by the Bishop’s Palace. The 10K also formed Race 7 of the Somerset Series and counted towards the Somerset Road Championships, adding extra significance to the feature race of the day. Read on to find out more.
