We're sorry to hear the news that former Harrier Julie Shawe has died. Julie had been in poor health for a long time and finally lost her battle with cancer while in St Margaret's Hospice in Yeovil last Thursday.
Julie & her husband Terry often used to run with the Wednesday group for many years, and our summer running route used to go past their house at Albany Lodge, Titlands Lane in Wookey Hole, BA5 1BD. The Funeral is at Mendip Crematorium on Wednesday Dec 3rd at 2.15pm - wear a bit of red. Our condolences in particular to Terry and their three daughters at this difficult time.

On a night which seemed well made for racing and with a large field of runners, the 152nd edition of the Street 5k race saw Harrier Kieran Young race to victory with a sub-16 minute clocking of 15.56, which is close to his life time best of 15.50. Meanwhile Linda Lascelles of the Maiden Newton Runners broke the F45 age record for the course with her 18.52 clocking. The previous F45 best time was 18.55 by Michelle Kerfoot of Bitton in December 2013. Also in record breaking mode was her team-mate David Butt with his 19.07 being inside Les Lock's previous V60 record time. We would like to congratulate all runners for their racing, and especially those from Avon Valley Runners and Weston AC who turned up in great numbers. Next month a longer funnel will be in place, we shall lasso anyone who misses the funnel(!)....and the Race Director promises Mince Pies for all.

There were some terrific performances by the assembled squad of Wells City Harrier runners at the 2nd of the Gwent cross-country League fixtures at Cardiff on Sunday. A total of 47 Harriers competed at all ages from 10 to 60. Top billing goes to Sophie Hamilton for an excellent victory in the u15 girls race, whilst Jon James won the V50 category, and there was a number of other Harriers finishing in top ten positions.

Unlike a certain crazy comedian, John Reynolds has done his journey across The Emerald Isle only carrying a 38lb backpack. Having conquered England and Scotland, John is targeting Wales later this year. Here is some of his commentary:
“Preparing for the last big push for this amazing run tomorrow. 50 miles on tired legs up through the Connemara landscape including hopefully the mountain range.
Giving it everything now to reach that West coast beach at Cleggon and make this new dream become reality.
I've been so fortunate to meet some amazing people along the journey and be able to learn so much from them.
The countryside changes all the time along with the many miles but never loses any of its outstanding beauty. Even the torrential storms of the last few days release a curious instinct to want to see and explore even more of what this country has to offer.
A few photos to express more than I ever can with words alone.”
