Oliver & Isobel called up for ENGLAND at Brussels match ; some strong running at the latest Gwent League fixture & Clare wins at the Full Monty

Following on recent impressive runs, two of the Wells City Harrier members have been selected to compete abroad for a representative England cross country team. Oliver Fox and Isobel Glaisher have been called up for the men’s and women’s U20 teams at the Brussels Lotto Cross Cup on 21st December 2014. This particular race has a long pedigree and sees the cream of European runners taking part. Oliver and Isobel clinched their selection from their impressive runs at the British Cross Challenge race at Liverpool recently. This past weekend has also seen some great running by Club members at the 3rd of the Gwent League fixtures and at the Full Monty Cute.

There was some excellent running by u20's Oliver Fox & Isobel Glaisher and u17 Sam Sommerville at the British Cross Challenge races held last weekend (Nov 29th) in Liverpool. Oliver finished in 11th place in the u20 men's race over 6.7km in 21.02, with just 31 seconds separating the top 11. Sam finished 11th in the u17 mens race in 17.55 for his 5.5km race. In the women's u20 race Isobel finished in 15th place with 15.32 for the 4.4km course, in a race won by Team GB's Jessica Judd in 14.45.

Nathan Young gained top marks for his winning run at the Brent Knoll 5.5 mile fell race on Sunday but it was his brother in 2nd place that achieved the accolade of gaining 2nd overall in the year-long Somerset Race Series 2014. With Justin Thomas 8th overall and Paul Chadwick 12th overall, 1st v50, in the Series, other Harriers to gain Series awards were Rebecca Carver, 3rd overall for the women and Carol Buckland , 6th overall and 1st F45. Meanwhile Harriers were also out at the Compton Half and the National Biathle championships.

Club's London Marathon places allocated, whilst Steve carries off the Bog seat at Harrier pre-Christmas social

There was a good turn out of over 50 of the Harrier members and friends at the Club's annual pre-Christmas Social event. Members attended from all of the different sections and training groups of the Club. The Club's three London Marathon places were much in demand as we had 11 members who qualified for the ballot. There were also some excellent nominations for the Club's annual bog-seat award.

Harriers race to the front at Aldon Hill and Somerset Series final coming up at Brent Knoll

There was a great turnout of 29 Wells City Harriers at the latest of the Wessex League Cross country matches last Sunday. They made the short journey to Aldon Park in Yeovil for the 3rd fixture in the League and came away with some excellent performances and five First place finishes. Meanwhile a number of Harriers are getting ready for the Brent Knoll Fell race on Sunday which will be the final race in the Somerset race series sponsored by Yeovil Glass.
