Sam competes at British Championships 400m whilst 2 Harrier teams conquer the Cotswold Way (again)

Sam Bedford lined up with some of the top British 400m athletes last weekend at the Sainburys British Championships at Birmingham, whilst we also had two relay teams competing hard on the fells over the 103 mile course of the Cotswold Way.

Sam Bedford won the Midlands AA Senior Mens 800m title in a slow tactical race last weekend at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham, whilst we saw some great performances by junior Harriers at the Somerset schools Championships on the saturday (june 14th). In the previous midweek race at Yeovilton over the 5km distance (June 11th) one of the Harriers Life members Ben Tickner came back to completely dominate the race. This past week a number of the Club's Fell runners have also been in action.

It’s been a busy old week for many of the Harriers, whether young or old, who like to compete and continue to see if they can improve. We have had great performances in all the athletic disciplines in local, regional and national competitions as usual. Whilst the 'Young' brothers are clearing up the awards on the local running scene, a couple of the juniors, Emily & Sam, have been getting towards the very top of the national rankings.

Sam smashes 400m pb whilst Kieran wins at Crewkerne 10k; and details of team events coming up

Sam Bedford raced to a 400m pb on the track with a nippy 47.96 clocking this past weekend (June 1st). That time takes him to 12th on the current national rankings for the u23s at the distance. Meanwhile Kieran Young led the Harrier team to victory at the hilly Crewkerne 10k road race on the same day, and the same weekend also saw several junior Harriers out competing in the National Youth Development League matches and achieving personal bests.

Well done to all the runners whether in the junior 500m race, the 1.2km race, the 5km race or the 10km race. If you want to get fitter, and faster, you can come and train with Wells City Harriers at their bases at Millfield School, Street, or at the Wells Rugby Club every week. We're a friendly Club with training sessions for juniors age 8 and upwards all the way up to age 78 - all ages and all abilities.
