There was an excellent turn out for the Wells Fun Runs this past weekend (Sunday 29th May). The races, organised by a local committee mainly made up of Wells Harrier members, but with help on the day from various other community groups, was again masterminded by Andrew Deamer ably supported by his family. The community of Wells was out in force to compete, or to cheer on the runners in the various races – 10k; 5k; 1.2k or 500m. There were over 700 runners in all the races and each and every one showed great enthusiasm and endeavour. Some 30 or so Harriers of all ages were racing, plus almost 20 of the new Beginners Group organised by the Harriers, and another 20 or so giving their time as volunteers before, during, or after the event. On Wednesday eve (25 May) the Couch to 5k training programme for those returning to running or starting to run concluded with certificates & t-shirts awarded to all. This preceded the Harrier AGM at which the assembly heard the Annual report and accepted the audited accounts from last year, prior to the election of the new Committee for 2016/17. Graham Goldsmid was elected as Chairman for 2016/17. Immediately after the conclusion of the formal business Graham presented, on behalf of the Club, the Harrier Annual awards for 2015/16. Please try and support your committee by attending the AGM. This will be the Club's 34th AGM and we are looking for new committee members to join the committee to help ensure that we can plan and organise all of the activities which the Club is involved in. The Committee meets 5 times per year with dates set well in advance. The committee is a mixture of senior athletes; volunteer coaches; and parents of juniors. The AGM will be chaired by Graham Goldsmid and will receive relevant reports from other officers.
Before the AGM we will get the chance to congratulate the Beginners Group which has been on the 'Couch to 5k programme' organised by Lynne Elstob with the help of Sharon Bowles and others. Hopefully, many of this group will have a go at the Wells Fun Run 5k on Sunday 29th May. After the formal business of the AGM we will have the Annual Awards and this will include an award to thank our esteemed Webmaster, Bob Powell, for all of his work over the past decade as he steps down from the role.

Monday was another good night of track and feild, with all doing their best at the multi-events on offer!
Well done to all - and keep training to get ready for the next competition. Our thanks to the volunteer Harrier coaches and the helping parents who ensure the event always runs smoothly.
Photo below shows the competitors before the event - good job their athletics is better than their Usain Bolt impressions! Read on for all the results; and don't forget:

This past weekend there was a good turn-out of Wells City Harrier members at the Somerset County Athletic Associations Championships held at Yeovil Arena. The harrier members combined with our Yeovil Olympiad partners as part of the composite Yeovil & Wells team. Meanwhile there were a group of the Club's more senior and veteran runners out at the latest of the Somerset Race Series on a hilly course over near Chard on the Sunday.
