There was some good running by the Wells City Harriers that took part at the Uphill to Wells relay race on Saturday (17th September). Covering 29 miles with 3.259 feet of climb, the relay race is broken down into 6 stages although some teams see individuals running more than one leg; and some participants decide to run the entire distance on their own. Amongst the solo runners once again was Harrier Clare Prosser who was 1st solo runner in a time of c4hrs 15mins. The Wells Harrier’s men’s team was 3rd overall. There were a number of Wells City Harriers competing at what was probably the final track & field competition for most of them this past Sunday (11th September). The end of season Yeovil Open was hosted by the Harriers partner Club, Yeovil Olympiads, and saw good levels of endeavour by all athletes trying to achieve personal bests. A number of the Harriers competed at multiple events. Meanwhile, the Harrier training sessions for the autumn started this past week with good numbers attending all of the Club organised evenings. For some, especially the juniors, training begins to be focussed on the forthcoming cross country season, whilst for seniors there is a range of activity – either for keeping fit or to prepare for XC or a road/multi-terrain event.
