Gwent league 13th Feb
On another wet day saw the 4th fixture in the Gwent league at Monmouth show ground.
11 harriers made the trip to a very muddy wet course.
first up was Hannah Blundy who showed great form with a very convincing win in a very competive u11 girls race

In the u15 races saw Ollie Thorner off first in the u15 boys who braved the conditions with a cast on protecting his broken arm and still managed a top 20 position with 17th, Ollie will now start to concentrate on multi events.

Elise Thorner also in great form after her run the week before in South West schools, saw here run a great run to finish 2nd in a field that saw some Welsh internationals, this was agreat run on a course suited for preparation for English Schools in March

Senior Ladies saw Debbie Glover our only lady as Katrina Prior was sidelined thru injury but was cheering Deb all the way to 36th
i am sure I saw a smile on Debs face as she was enjoying the mud, Debs run should help us avoid Relegation .
senior men saw 6 men brave the churned up course Luke Prior who was running up 2 age groups to finish 7th and move up to 2nd overall as a u23 shame he will miss last fixture due to English Schools, next in was the ever improving Chris Green 21st, Jacob Longman making his Gwent League debut in 106th, Mike Glover seemed to be enjoying the conditions for 140th, also making his debut was Duncan Veral 214th, Pete Wright on his come back from injury was 249th

On Saturday the 6th Feb saw the SW Schools xc champs held at Pittville Park Cheltneham, over night rain and more rain on the day made the course rather muddy lol. After some last minute changes to the course for health and safety the racing got under way on a demanding slightly undulating course.
First up was the minor boys on a already cut up course from everyone walking th course, with 2 wells/Yeovil boys, this being there 1st sw champs and both had solid runs to finish Toby Watson 30th and Piran Littles 60th, which help Somerset to 3rd place in the team race.

Inter boys again 66 boys lined up and saw 4 Wells/Yeovil runners in the Somerset team, parts of the course now looked more like a ploughed up field but again some great running with Ben Llyod 25th Dylan Dukes 44th Bradley Seager 49th Alex Williams 54th, Somerset finished 5th team.
Inter Girls again had 66 in the field and again Wells/Yeovil turning out a major portion of the Somerset team, and 2 of them battling it out to finish within 6 seconds of each other and top 10 positions Sophie Hamilton 6th and Elise Thorner 7th, Caitlin Carnegie 31st and Katie Llyod 50th helping Somerset to a top 2 position
Senior Girls with 57 turning out and Wells/yeovil again supplying 4 in the team saw India Cooper 25th Lucy Baldwin 33rd Megan Rusca 36th Amy Darcy 43rd all the girls ran well in these conditions that had now become a muddy slog and helped Somerset to 5th county
Senior Boys saw 5 Wells/Yeovil athletes making up 1/2 the team this race saw Wells/Yeovil/Somerset highest team and individual placing, 1st in for Somerset was Luke Prior 2nd who took the race to GB international William Battershill who just came out the stronger, next in was Sam Somerville 5th Felix Rusby 7th Oliver Dickinson 8th James Bribge 12th that's a great effort by all, Somerset had 6 athletes in the top 12, also from Tuesday night traning group from Downside school saw Johhny Birkkett and Theo Matthew Theo help Somerset to a 42 point win

There were over 40 Harriers from either the Millfield or the Yeovil based training groups competing at the annual Somerset Schools Cross Country Championships this past Saturday (23rd January). The racing commenced with an imperious performance by Sam Sommerville in the senior boys race, and continued on throughout the afternoon with many Harriers finishing in the top ten throughout the age groups, and thus putting themselves in contention for selection for the Somerset Schools team to compete at the forthcoming South West Schools Championships. Ben Lloyd won the inter boys; Sophie Hamilton & Kai Snell were 2nd in the inter girls and minor girls races; and Luke Macpherson and Luke Prior were 3rd in the junior boys and senior boys races respectively.
