The final race in the 27th season of the Clive & Angela Thomas Street 5k Series saw Wells City Harrier Tom Dukes crowned King; and Langport Runners junior Holly Bigger crowned Queen; of the Series. In the 1km race for juniors, Harriers James Carr and Maisie Loader were series winner. In the 2km race Harriers Tom Loader and Jessica Hudson were victorious. It’s been another great season of running with Race Director Ed Tickner thanking all the marshals, finish crew, the results supremo; and the First aid officials for all their help in making sure the Series once again went off without too many hiccups. Of course without the runners too, we wouldn't have had such a good time. Full Race Results and Series standings are in the usual place in the right hand column below. The Babcary 7.5 mile road race, sponsored by Avalon Sciences, was held on Sunday 28th February and attracted a field of 119 finishers. It was the first of the local community races that the Harriers support, and assist at, for 2016. The Babcary race has a pedigree going back over 20 years with Harrier Gary Tubridy organising, Race Directing and sponsoring, the event with lots of enthusiastic local marshals around the undulating course, and a great offering of tea and cakes back in the hall after the event.. First home on the day was Wells City Harrier Tim Hawkins in 43.34; with first woman being Linda Lascelles of Maiden Newton Runners in 48.25, 13th overall. Lin and husband Martin won the overall age graded awards for their endeavours. The race was also race number 3 in the Somerset Race Series 2016, sponsored by Yeovil Glass. (photo to follow)

Harrier coaches Lynne Elstob and Sharon Bowles, assisted by various other Harriers, are once again running the 'Couch to 5k' training sessions to get beginners into running. Whether you've never run before or haven't run for ages, this is the course for you.
The sessions start on WEDNESDAY 6th APRIL at 6.30pm to 7.45pm. By that time the clocks will have gone forward and we will have the lighter evenings with us. The cost of the course of 8 weeks (every Wednesday, meeting at Wells Rugby Club) is a bargain £10, or £2 per session, and at the end of the course there will be a special Harriers t-shirt for every participant. We hope some, if not all, might also feel that they want to run in the Wells Fun Run (over 5k) to be held on Sunday 29th May. (see separate information about the Fun Runs for all ages and abilities on the right hand column below).
See Beginners course tab above for more information about this year, and last year's information. Limited spaces available for 2016.
