Wells City Harrier members have followed up their good performances at the recent Wells Fun Runs with a set of track and field , and road running, marks this past week or two. Elise Thorner has continued to excel at a range of events and is still No 1 nationally for u17w steeplechase, Harriers were part of the composite team with Yeovil Olympiads in the 2nd of the seasons South West Track & Field League matches at Exeter on Sunday 4th June and a number of Harriers had great races at the middle distance events, achieving good times and team points. Meanwhile a senior mens team was led home by Ed Stahl at the latest of the Somerset race Series races at Crewkerne, and won the team award. Good running by all at the Wells Fun Runs!
As usual, the late May Bank Holiday in Wells saw a whole host of excellent running performances by athletes of all ages taking part in the Wells Fun Runs. With this year seeing 5 separate races, the race organisers were pleased with the turn out of runners from near and far. Chip timing was used for the 4 longer races and the times are now available. Prizes were awarded in the junior race (for under 8s) by the Rt Revd Peter Hancock, the Bishop of Bath & Wells; with prizes awarded in the other races by John & Gail North the Mayor & Lady Mayor of Wells.
The Race organisers thank all the volunteer helpers, many of whom are current or former Wells City Harrier members; and the Club would once again like to particularly thank Race Director Andrew Deamer, and Lynne Elstob and Sharon Bowles, who have put in so much time to make sure the races have gone off smoothly. Medals galore at County Championships, whilst Chris wins at Wambrook and Elise goes top ten in UK again
Wells City Harrier members were busy again this past weekend. Many of the juniors were at the County Athletic Association Track & Field Championships, whilst a good number of seniors were running at a 10km multi-terrain race near Chard. Several of the juniors, competing as part of the combined Yeovil & Wells track & field team came away with medals from the Championships or achieved personal bests. All that training and coaching on a Monday evening is paying off! Also Elise Thorner has another top ten national ranking from her race at Solihull. Chris Green won the multi-terrain race at Wambrook whilst Nick Weaving continues to lead the Somerset Race Series. The Wells City Harrier committee cordially invite all current members and parents of junior members to the 36th Annual General Meeting of the Harriers. The Meeting will start at 8.00pm at the Wells Rugby Club and will include the following agenda items: Minutes of the 35th AGM for approval; Brief report on the previous year; Financial report and approval of accounts; Election of committee for 2017/18; Proposal of the Committee to recognise the achievement of Luke Prior as an Hon Life Member following his selection for Team GB. Following on from the formal AGM we will also have the presentation of some Annual Awards to recognise the achievements and contributions of some Harriers in the past year. Before the formal AGM, at approximately 7.45pm the Up & Running beginners group will receive their T-shirts to recognise their completion of this year's course. Harriers looking to run before the AGM should gather up no later than 6.45pm as per usual. There were well over 40 Wells Harriers competing across the Bank Holiday weekend: at track & field in the multi-events at Millfield School; at the Glastonbury Road Runs; at the Yorkshire Three Peaks Fell Race; and at the British Milers Club middle distance event at Millfield. Some excellent performances across the weekend!
