Wells City Harriers had a large contingent of its junior members competing on Saturday, 18th March, at the English Schools Cross Country Championships, whilst 20 seniors competed at the Harrier sponsored Butleigh multi-terrain 10km race on the following day Sunday, 19th. The Schools event was being held at the Norfolk County Showground, Norwich and brought together the best junior runners from across the country. The best run by a junior Harrier was by Elise Thorner in the Inter-girls event where she finished 18th in the 300plus field, but all that ran will have gained good experience of competing in a national level competition. All of the Harriers were running as part of the well organised Somerset Schools selected teams.

Wells City Harriers once again had athletes competing at all disciplines of the sport this past weekend. Members were in competition at the Inter-Counties cross country championships at Loughborough, the half marathon road race at Bath, the tough 20 mile multi-terrain race known as The Grizzly from Seaton, Devon, the Larmer Tree races in Dorset, and one junior Harrier was competing indoors at Pole Vault. Top billing goes to Luke Prior who, after years of hard training, has achieved the feat of being selected to represent Britain at the forthcoming World XC Championships to be held in Uganda.

The 168th edition of the Clive & Angela Thomas Street 5km race saw some fascinating racing throughout the field, with Tom Dukes steadily pacing himself to catch the Downside trio who got away on the first two or three fast laps; Holly Bigger running an excellent even paced race to win for the females; and a 3, or 4-way battle for top V70 standing eventually ending in Paul Snelling setting a new course record. Prizes were awarded to the top consistent runners throughout the 28th Series after the race; with junior runners gaining their just rewards for no lesser effort in the accompanying 1k and 2k races.
Series standings to follow very soon.
