The August Bank holiday Monday saw a large turnout of runners taking part in the annual races at Baltonsborough inconjunction with the Baltonsborough Show.
On one of the hottest days in recent years numerous local athletes and club runners turned out to contest the 5 mile undulating course with a strong entry for the Junior race with 35 runners. (Photo of junior race start by Nellie Clothier)

A busy bank holiday weekend for the Harriers

The hot bank holiday weekend saw a large turnout of Harriers from all age groups out competing in 3 local races with much success. On Sunday at the Avon AA 5K Road Relay Championships, Luke Prior led a Wells senior men’s team to victory, while on the same day at The Battle of Sedgemoor 10k, Zoe Kurle was first female home. This was followed up on the Monday by another Harriers victory when club vet Andrew Hennesey won the 5 mile Baltonsborough Road Race.

Luke Prior wins Yeovilton 5k, whilst dad Simon is top of the quadrathletes! & this month's 'Blast from the Past'

Luke Prior led home a strong Wells City Harrier contingent at the August version of the Yeovilton 5km race last Wednesday (9th August). There were 4 Harriers home in the top ten whilst there were pbs for Dan Maydew, Zoe Kurle & Andy Robinson. The previous night Simon Prior demonstrated that ability runs throughout the family when he swept to victory in a quadrathlon as part of the Tuesday night training programme. This month's blast from the past is a photo or two from the Harrier squad that competed at the South of England Road Relays back in 2007. See who you can spot!

There was some good running by the Harriers at the latest of this year’s Somerset Race Series races this past Wednesday (Aug 2nd). Despite the heavy rain and strong winds there was a good turn out at the 29th running of the Haselbury 10k trail race, with 148 finishers. New member Dan Cahill was 3rd overall, whilst Ali Blaney picked up 3rd female prize. Well done also to Luke Prior on lowering the YOAC u20s 5000m track record & read on for details of various entry deadlines. Elise wins at International Schools match; whilst YOAC/Harriers finish 3rd at BAL;& 27 Harriers run at Yeovilton 5k

Elise Thorner, running for the English Schools Athletics team, won the 1500m steeplechase at the international Schools match at Dublin last Saturday in a time just outside her personal best. On the same day the YOAC British Athletics League team finished 3rd. Meanwhile there was an excellent turn out of Harriers – juniors; seniors; and veterans at the July edition of the 5k road race and the squad was led home by Oliver Dickinson setting a new personal best of 15.55.
