Wells City Harriers were out competing at various running events this past weekend (28/29 Oct). Whilst we had a good spread of results at the local Shepton 10k, others were competing at the latest Somerset Series race on the Blackdowns, and a handful more went across to Dorset for the Stickler – three peaks race. Without doubt though, the toughest race of the weekend was tackled by Chris & Ben Kelsey when they competed at the 50th edition of the Original Mountain Marathon in Langdale, Cumbria. (start on Day 1 of the OMM - the weather was about to get worse!)

Almost 30 of the Wells City Harrier athletes were competing this past weekend (21st/22nd Oct). Whilst the vast majority were in cross country action, u23 Philip Bridge was running and winning at the Stroud Half marathon on the road in a new personal best of 69.41. There were three winners at the Wessex League match: Matt Cole for the senior men; Caitlin Carnegie for the u20 women ; and Darcy Dryden for the u3 girls. Other Harriers were also in action at the Exmoor Stagger or Stumble or the Abingdon Marathon. Read on for the latest standings in the Somerset Race Series 2017. (photo of Caitlin by Neil)

Dan and Caitlin win at Cary; whilst others run well at Cardiff Cross country inc Hannah & Elise!

As is usual, Wells City Harrier members were out competing hard this past weekend – with a contingent of juniors and seniors going to Llandaff fields, Cardiff, for the cross country on Saturday; and another group racing more locally at the Castle Cary 10k multi-terrain event on the Sunday. Whilst Dan Cahill and Caitlin Carnegie take the plaudits for winning at Sunday’s race, there was a range of good performances at Cardiff, with u13 Hannah Blundy and u17 Elise Thorner finishing well up at Cardiff - brilliant! There was a good turn-out of runners from near and far at the 169th edition of the Street 5k races on Wednesday 11th October. Finishing in first place was Bridgwater’s Matthew Cox, a member of a local triathlon club, in a nippy 16.55. Chasing him all the way was u15 Wells City Harrier Matthew Quarterman in 17.19 which is a new personal best. 3rd overall was 1st V40 Tom Dukes (Wells Harriers), 17.23, with his son Dylan hot on his heels on every lap, finishing in 18.08. First for the women was F45 Elizabeth Parry, 22.44, winning the sprint finish from 2nd placed F35 Claire Lay, 22.46. In the 1k junior race Owen Dukes had a good attempt at the course record but was 13 seconds short this time round when winning. Alice King was 1st for the girls over 1k. In the 2k race Logan Moncrieff and Isabelle Walker won. Read on for full results and report. Well done to all runners especially if this was your very first Street race!
