Frank Tickner swept to victory at the Yeovil half marathon last Sunday (March 31st) whilst the previous weekend saw Oli Frost running well at the Black Mountains Ultra race (that's a bit hilly!). There's also some great races coming up with a number of Harriers at this Sunday's (April 6th) Taunton Half/Marathon and others getting ready for the London the following weekend. Read on for details of some relay team opportunties for Harrier members.

There are a range of opportunities now available for senior Harriers and parents of junior members. Coaching, officiating, team managing and marshalling duties are all required for activities and events which we take part in or support. To help you plan your track and field season the early dates for the coming season are now available.
Matthew & Katrina win at the 33rd Butleigh Multi-terrain race

Pete Wright reports: The 33rd Butleigh Multi Terrain took place on Sunday 16th March along with junior races based from the village playing fields and hosted by the Butleigh Playing Fields Association in conjuction with and supported by Wells City Harriers. The races attracted over 100 runners. The event was the 4th race in the 2014 Somerset Race Series sponsored by M5Glass.The main event was won once again by the Harrier's Matthew Dickinson on tired legs from having run at the English Schools XC Championships the day before. First home for the ladies was Harrier Katrina Prior using the race as part of her build up for the London Marathon. Results in the right hand column.

Harrier juniors run well at the English Schools XC Championships

Almost 20 of the Harrier's junior squads and another couple of non-Harrier members who train with us at Millfield track competed hard at the prestigious English Schools XC Championships this past Saturday (March 15th) at Donington Park. On dry, flattish, terrain the going was fast and furious. Top billing goes to Isobel Glaisher in the senior girls race who finished 10th; whilst Oliver Fox was pick of the boys results with his 13th placing in the equivalent age group for boys. Both Isobel and Oliver are at the younger age for this particular two year age span.

King & Queen of Street crowned for another year: Race number 150 celebrated !

Well, that was another good night of racing at the Street 5k. There can have been few nights over the 150 nights when the races have been held over the past 25 years when conditions have been so good- cool but still. Harriers Kieran Young and Charlotte Baker were again crowned King & Queen based on their performances, best of 5 over the 6 race Series for 2013/14. Junior Harriers from the Monday training group also picked up the equivalent shields for their racing in the 1k and 2k races; William Carr picked up the 1k award and Connie Little the 2k award. Full results appear in the box on the right, a longer report below and photos of the happenings to be added soon.
