Were you unsuccesful in the main ballot? Are you a fully paid up member of the Harriers (or YOAC)? If so then the Club will have some places for club members to use at the London Marathon 2014. Last year we were able to get 4 of our Club members into the race. Rob Moore was first off the blocks to register the fact that he'd got a reject slip/newsletter for the big event. If we have more members that qualify for a place, than places, we will be holding a ballot at the Harrier Social event on Thursday Nov 21st. Bring your reject slip and cross your fingers and you could be "in". You then just have to do all that training! Contact Club secretary or Chairman to register your name for the Club ballot.
This last weekend saw a number of harriers taking part in the Mendip Muddle. The 12.5 mile multi-terrain race organised by Weston AC is routed through some of the finest scenery that the Mendips can offer, as well as a severe test for all with numerous climbs totalling approximately 1400 feet, coupled with heavy rain for part of the event gave the course an added mixture of muddy and slippery conditions.
With a full entry of over 350 runners and approximately 300 finishers there was a competitive edge with the leading contingent clocking some rapid sub 90 minute times, Wells first man was Andrew Deamer who has consistently finished high in the Muddle results over the years and finished in an excellent 12th place in 1:30:01, whilst Wells Clare Prosser was the first lady and winning FV 40 in a remarkable 1:31:38 just 6 places back from Deamer.
Other high end finishers were veteran Dave Bonstow 51st (1:40:42) and another seasoned veteran Chris Kelsey 59th (1:42:01), whilst other finishers entered as Mendip Hashers were John Reynolds 100th ( 1:49:03), Laurie and Aidan Phippard 108th (1:50:41), 113th (1:51:45) respectfully Mike Brown 163rd ( 2:00:19), with WCH Pete Wright 205th ( 2:07:14) and Allan Jamieson 258th (2:27:44)
Harriet, Elise and Elena are top 5 in England, whilst Harriers are out running (& winning) everywhere (including Mendip Muddle)
