Harriers excel at County Championships, Regional Leagues and National Masters Relays

There were some terrific performances by Wells City Harriers members over the past weekend of May 17th/18th. With many competing at the County Championships at Yeovil, the Club still managed to have competitors out at two regional Track and Field League matches, and also sent a squad of road relay runners to a national event in Birmingham.

Double top at League track & field matches on weekend of May 10th/11th and then came the Yeovilton 5k!

There was a double top for the track team on the weekend of May 10th/11th when the Yeovil (&Wells) team won both their British Men’s Div 4 League match (on the Saturday) and the South West League Division 1 match on the Sunday. Both matches were hosted at Yeovil. Some 18 of the Harrier members were taking part bolstering the Yeovil Olympiads team. Later in the week we also saw some fantastic running and pbs at the May edition of the Yeovilton 5km road race, where 20 Harriers raced.
Great night of track running on Monday night

There was another of the great nights of track running on Monday evening (May 5th) at Millfield when a bumper entry of athletes took part in the British Milers Club annual Academy races over the classic middle distances of 800m & 1500m, and the 3,000m. Over 30 Harriers and team-mates from the Yeovil Olympiads raced and some 17 or so of them recorded personal bests despite blustery weather with heavy downpours at times. it's difficult to pick out the star performer because there were so many.
King of Glastonbury crowned (again)

Wells City Harriers dominated the Glastonbury Round the Tor races this past weekend (May 4th) where almost 40 of the Club members were out competing. Nathan Young once again won the main event with a convincing run over the 10km distance, following up on his victory from last year. Meanwhile another squad of Harriers were competing in a team relay in North Dorset.
Elena & Ollie win County medals at County Championships

There were some terrific performances by Wells City Harrier juniors at the Somerset County Athletic Association & Somerset Schools combined events Championships held at Millfield track over last weekend. Elena Sidman won the Gold medal when she won the Minor Girls Quadrathlon event for Year 7, and Ollie Thorner won the Somerset bronze medal for his performance in the Junior Boys pentathlon event for Year 8 & 9 students.
