Harrier Emily Smith is on stand-by as a reserve for TeamGB to compete at the forthcoming European XC Championships to take place in Sardinia, Italy on 11th December. This is a great step up for Emily and though she is naturally disappointed to only be a reserve she was really pleased with her run at the trial race held in Liverpool at the weekend. Emily was one of three excellent performances by Harriers at the trials. Meanwhile, closer to home we had a useful senior squad out competing at the final race in the Somerset Race Series at Brent Knoll - where Tim Hawkins claimed his Series victory - and a couple of youngsters from our Monday training group were competing hard at the British Modern Pentathlon championships.(Emily pictured in action on Saturday at a misty Liverpool)

60 of the Wells City Harriers gathered together last Friday (25 November) for the Club’s Annual pre-Christmas Dinner and the night was a great success in more ways than one. Members were drawn from all the different training and competing groups of the Club – juniors through to veterans and volunteers; Monday through to Sunday training groups; partners from Yeovil Olympiads as well as Harrier members recently joined from the ‘Up & Running’ group or from a lifetime of membership (35 years and counting!). There was an excellent turn out of 25 members of Wells City Harriers competing at the 3rd of this season's Wessex Cross Country League fixtures at Aldon Hill, Yeovil on Saturday. Neil Biss once again did an excellent job on behalf of the Harriers at welcoming and organising the teams.U13 boy Toby Watson from the Club's Monday night training group was the only Harrier winner, whilst Tom Thick (senior men), Ben Lloyd (u17m), and Caitlin Carnegie(u17w) all achieved second place finishes. The course was the usual combination of tough hills with the occasional muddy patch and the weather was fine.
