The track & field season got underway with the usual Spring season opener at the Bill Whistlecroft Arena over the weekend of 21st & 22nd April and has continued this past weekend with the Somerset multi-events competition. There’s been some terrific performances, whether by those new to track & field competition or the more seasoned athletes amongst the combined Wells City harrier/Yeovil Olympiads team. Top billing once again probably goes to Elise Thorner for her run in the 2000m Steeplechase last weekend (21st) where she went under 7minutes with her 6.59.04 which is within the European U18 championships qualifying standard for this year. All Harriers should also note that the deadline to enter the County T&F Championships is on Saturday 5th May. Read on for details.

There were some very hot Harriers out there last weekend (Sunday 22nd April) amongst the 40,000 other runners at the London Marathon. Some were making their debut at London, whilst others were back again. All who started got round and in a number of instances will have raised good amounts of money for good causes. Hannah Blundy had a great run for 9th in the inter-regional Mini-Marathon over 3miles. If you feel inspired to have a go yourselves, then read on for details of entering the 2019 ballot for a London Marathon place. Also we report here on some of the road/multi-terrain races this past month where particularly amongst the youngsters a stack of personal bests were achieved: all that training is paying off!
