A number of Wells City Harriers made themselves available for selection at the Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships held at Loughborough this past Saturday (10th March 2018). They were all competing for the combined Avon & Somerset team, and there were some terrific performances in the heavy mud! Best individual position was by u13 Hannah Blundy.

Dates and venues for the Track & Field competition season 2018 have now been confirmed. In the next few weeks we will come to the end of the winter programme of competition with the Inter-Counties XC this coming weekend (10th March) and the English Schools XC the following weekend (17th March). The Harriers compete at Track and Field as part of the composite team with our partners Yeovil Olympiads. Read on for more details of competition opportunities
English XC Championships; National Junior Indoors; and the Babcary Road Race - all in one weekend!

It’s been another busy weekend for Harriers (Saturday 24th & 25th February). A squad competed at the National English Cross Country Championships at Parliament Hill, in London, on the Saturday with Oliver Fox finishing 6th in the senior men’s race; the u20 twins of Elise and Ollie Thorner were in action at the English Junior indoor Championships at Sheffield; and there was a Harrier 1-2-3 at the Harrier supported Babcary Road race on Sunday 25th February, where Chris Green roared home for first, with Oli Frost 2nd, and Chris Walker completing the set. First on the age graded results, which is how most of the prizes are made, went to Martin Lascelles (Maiden Newton Runners) with Linda Lascelles (Maiden Newton) 2nd overall. Babcary results below. Dylan wins Street 5k for the first time, whilst Amber returns to win for the women! Plus off-road relay team opps for Harriers

Despite the unpromising weather – squally rain! - the Harrier’s Dylan Dukes claimed his first ever Street 5k victory when he came from behind on the final lap to beat Zak Hurrell, whilst one of the Club’s Hon Life members Amber Gascoigne was back in the area to win for the women in overall 5th place. There was no less effort shown by the youngsters in the 1k and 2k races where Logan Moncrieff won the 1k race and Isabelle Walker the 2k race. Great running by Harrier juniors at SW Schools whilst 5 excel at the BUCS XC Championships for Students - Street 5k edition 173 coming up!

Wells City Harrier members continue to be in action across this winter period and last weekend (3rd/4th Feb) saw some great running either at the South West schools XC event, where many Harriers, from both the Millfield training base or the Yeovil track base, ran in the red vest of Somerset schools; or at the British Universities XC Championships (BUCS) held at Brunel University. Elise Thorner gained a top ten finish at the SW County schools event whilst two Hon Life Members had great races at BUCS. Also in action was Ollie Thorner gaining a pb in the indoors 400m.
