A nice September evening perfect for running saw 22 Juniors and seniors from Wells compete in a large field of over 230 at the September Yeovilton 5k which is the last race in this year’s series organised by Yeovil RRC.

Harrier success at National Combined events Championships whilst veterans win medals at Southern Championships

Wells City Harriers members were out at national and regional Championship events this past weekend and also had a team competing at a more local running event. Three of the Harrier juniors competed at the English Schools National Combined Events Championships at Bedford; whilst four of the veterans headed across to the Isle of Wight for the South of England Fell Running Championships and a group of seniors competed at the local ‘Uphill to Wells’ relay race. Ollie Thorner gained a silver medal for the decathlon whilst Chris and Helen Kelsey picked up gold & silver medals, respectively, for their fell running.

Host of Harriers at top of the 3k & 5 miler with Dan & Zak winning; Graham leads team home in the 8. Whilst some great pbs at the Yeovil Games.
There was some good running by all on the hilly off-road races from Ash Martock School on Sunday, 9th September. First held way back in 1996, the Excellent 8 has always been a good test of running and with the accompanying Fearsome 5 and junior 3k and Fun run there are races for all ages and abilities. Zak Hurrell won the 5 miler; Dan Maydew the 3k race whilst Club Chairman Graham Goldsmid led the way for the Harriers in the 8 miler. Meanwhile at Yeovil Arena there were some excellent end of season personal bests by a host of Harrier juniors.

Wells City Harriers were in action at track and field and at road races this past weekend. A number of the junior members had good performances at the final South West Track & Field League match at Exeter Arena, whilst some senior athletes competed hard either at the Cardiff 10k or the Bridgwater 10k. The joint team with Yeovil Olympiads finished in overall 7th place (out of 12) in the League this year. Well done to all the Harriers that supported the team effort!

Wells City Harriers had members out competing at three running events this past weekend. Former TeamGB international Andrew Hennessy returned to win the Baltonsborough 5 mile road race on the Monday in 27.45 with 1st junior home being u15 Archie Tyler in 8th place overall in 30.44. Whilst on the Sunday Christian Green was 2nd at the Langport Battle of Sedgemoor 10k in 34.40; and on the Saturday Paul Chadwick was 1st V60 at the Oke Croak 10.7 mile Fell race on Dartmoor.

- Success at national British Athletics League as men's team gains promotion!
- Great Running at Haselbury Trail Race as Leo wins over the 6km and Christian, Steve and Paul are prize winners at the 10km; & at the BMC Regional track meet at Exeter - pbs for Tommy, Jack & Matthew.
- Holly & Harry are South West Champions, with a host of other good Harrier performances, whilst Paul conquers Snowdon, and committee meets to review London Marathon places etc
