There was some good running by Wells City Harriers at the latest of the Yeovilton 5km road races last Wednesday, 8th August, and excellent track and field performances when contributing to the victory in the South West Cup match on the previous Sunday, 5th August. 24 Harriers of all ages ran at the 5km with Ben Tickner leading the team home in 3rd place.

Success at national British Athletics League as men's team gains promotion!

The Wells City Harriers have again been in action this past weekend with strong performances at track and field in the British Athletics Men’s League match as part of the Yeovil Olympiads team at Nottingham. As a consequence the joint team have gained promotion from Division 4 to Division 3. Harriers were also in action at the South West League Cup match at Braunton and results are awaited. Meanwhile the Harrier Tuesday training group saw a few members take up the challenge of a Quadrathon in an hour with Tommy Hummell coming out on top, based on age-grading..

There was a useful looking squad of senior Harriers out competing at the latest of the Somerset Series races at North Perrott on Wednesday 1st August. The Haselbury Trail 10k race was celebrating its 30th year with over 200 runners competing over the two lap course from the North Perrott Cricket ground, formerly the home of Somerset 2nds and now the home ground for Dorset Cricket team. Meanwhile a small group of juniors went off to compete at the Regional BMC meet at Exeter on the Tuesday, 31st July.

Wells City Harrier members were in action at the South West Athletics Championships this past weekend at Exeter Arena. Two of them came away as champions – Holly Bigger and Harry Barton, with others recording personal best times in their track races. Meanwhile the Club Secretary Paul was competing at the tough International Snowdon Fell Race over 10 miles. Next week the Haselbury Trail 10k calls for seniors, whilst some juniors go off in search of personal bests at another BMC track meeting.

TeamGB athletes back at the Harrier's Monday training, whilst another wins Frome 5k, and a host of other good results this past week

The latest Wells City Harriers to compete for TeamGB were back on Monday eve at the Harrier’s Monday junior session, where their first athletics coaching sessions had been some 9 years ago! Elise & Ollie Thorner had also just come back from representing Somerset Schools at the English Schools Championships. Another Harrier TeamGB athlete, Ben Tickner, won Sunday’s Frome 5k in 15.49. Meanwhile Philip Bridge led the way for the Harriers at the July edition of the Yeovilton 5k races, with a 3rd place finish, with Jon James close behind for 1st V50.
