Elise & Ollie excel at European Championships for TeamGB, whilst Harriers bolster the joint team with Yeovil Olympiads at Bedford and Exeter

Two of the Wells City Harrier’s junior athletes competed this past weekend for TeamGB in the European under 18 Track & Field Championships in Gyor, Hungary. Competing against the best in Europe they didn’t disappoint. Meanwhile the Yeovil Olympiads men’s team was in action at the third of this season’s British Athletics League fixtures, in Bedford, on Saturday; and the joint team was also in action at the South West Athletics League fixture in Exeter. There were a number of personal bests recorded by Harriers across the weekend, and also at the recent BMC meet in Exeter.

Great effort by Emily at the British Championships; Glorious running by Harrier teams on Cotswolds; Wins for Christian and Zak and other good runs these past 2 weeks.

Emily Smith finished 5th in the 3000m Steeplechase at the British Athletics Championships on Sunday 1st July; whilst on Saturday (30thJune) the two teams of Harriers had an excellent tough day covering 103 miles of the hilly Cotswold Way; and there has been outright wins recently by Christian Green at the Quantock Beast 5.7 miles multi-terrain on 1st July and by Zak Hurrell at the Martock 10km road race on 17th June. Harrier pair selected for Team GB - Congratulatons to Elise & Ollie Thorner - now updated with more photos & 'a parents view'

Wells City Harriers members Elise & Ollie Thorner heard this week that they have been selected to represent TeamGB at the forthcoming European Under 18 Athletics Championships in Gyor, Hungary which runs from 5th July - 8th July 2018. They follow in the footsteps of seven other Harriers who have been selected in the past 20 years for TeamGB and gives a further boost to the standing of the Club which has consistently provided the right levels of coaching and team opportunities for talented athletes to thrive.


Another good night for racing at the latest Yeovilton 5k, whilst Ali Blaney is 3rd at the Piddlewood Plod multi-terrain 10k on the Blackdowns.

First home for the Harriers at the June edition of the Yeovilton 5k race was Tom Dukes, in 8th, (2nd V40) with Jon James just behind, in 9th (1st v50). Their times were a nippy 16.16 and 16.17. Tom’s son Dylan Dukes was 1st junior home in 16.54 for 12th. Meanwhile at the Piddlewood Plod, Ali Blaney ran well for 3rd woman home and gained valuable points in her quest towards the Somerset Race Series!

Harriers busy on the track and road - weekend of 2nd and 3rd June

There were some good performances at track and field over the weekend of 2nd/3rd June when Harrier members competed with their Yeovil Olympiad team-mates at the 2nd of this season’s Men’s British Athletics League on the Saturday at Portsmouth and at the South West Athletics League match on the Sunday at Exeter Arena. Another group of Harriers were also out competing at the Crewkerne 10km or 5km road races on the Sunday. U15 Archie Tyler (below) won the hilly Crewkerne 5k in a nippy 18.17.
