Ben returns to claim victory at Street 5k; whilst Ollie is 4th at UK indoor Multi-events; and host of Harriers excel at South West XC Championships

There was another great night of racing at the 178th edition of the Street 5k races. Harrier Life Member (TeamGB international) Ben Tickner returned after a long gap to win the race, whilst Zoe Kurle won for the first time at Street. Meanwhile last Sunday saw Ollie Thorner finish 4th u20 at the UK indoor multi-event Championships in Sheffield; and also the same day was the latest edition of the South West Cross Country Championships when over 20 Harriers took on the challenge of Aldon Hill for Club and in some cases County!

Christian Green’s winning time at the 10k multi-terrain Chard Flyer was 34.54 with u23 George Mallinson also having a great run for 4th in 38.13. The race was the first in this year’s Somerset Race Series & entries are now open for the Harrier supported Babcary Road race to be held on Feb 24th. On the same day Philip Bridge was 4th in a competitive field at the Broadstone Junction Quarter Marathon at Poole. Harriers have also been out racing on Boxing Day and at the pre-Christmas Wellington Monument race - read on for results and for news of forthcoming races and training sessions.

Oliver wins European Team Silver whilst host of Harriers gain medals at County Champs and mid-week sees Street 5k edition number 177

Oliver Fox was a member of the silver medal winning u23 men’s Team GB squad that competed at the European Cross Country Championships at Tilburg, Netherlands on Sunday. Meanwhile 25 Harriers of all ages competed at this year’s Somerset County XC Championships at the University of Bath with over a dozen coming away with medals; and another great night of Street races saw victories for Christian Green and Helen Southcott. Hannah, Elise & Philip win their races whilst Sharon & Ali gain Marathon places and Andrew wins prestigious trophy at Annual Dinner

Wells City Harrier's had three athletes winning events this past weekend, with u20 Elise Thorner and u15 Hannah Blundy successful at the tough Gwent League Cross Country races, whilst u23 Philip Bridge literally ran away from the field at the Full Monty Cute 10 mile multi-terrain race. Elise & Philip were also at the Harrier’s Annual Dinner on the Friday night where Ali Blaney & Sharon Bowles won the ballot for the Club’s London Marathon places whilst Andrew Piper won the prestigious Harrier Bog seat award!

This past week has seen some excellent performances by Harrier members –topped by Oliver Fox gaining his 3rd TeamGB vest following a tough, intensely competitive race at Liverpool. Whilst in Somerset, Christian Green and Ali Blaney deservedly won the 2018 Somerset Race Series and were awarded their prizes after the final race at Brent Knoll, with others gaining age category or top ten awards. Philip Bridge ran away with victory at the local race in an impressive exhibition of front running as he trains hard for a Spring Marathon.Read on for XC Championship arrangements and Social news, including a final call for Bog seat nominations.
