Harriers excel at English Schools Championships! Latest results from Yeovilton 5k

There were excellent performances by junior Harriers and members of our partner Club, Yeovil Olympiads, at the English Schools National Championships at Gateshead Stadium at the weekend (July 10th & 11th). Top billing goes to u15 Harrier Vicky McCabe who managed to pull out a great leap of 5.44m in the Long Jump to gain Bronze. We also had Harriers out in action at the British Athletics League fixture and almost 20 ran at last week's Yeovilton 5km road race.(photos below by Al Thorner)

Emily finishes 4th in British Championships whilst Harriers compete in joint Yeovil & Wells track teams; and others race at the Quantock Beast

Wells City Harrier Emily Smith finished just outside of the medals when she competed in the British Athletics Championships on Saturday at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham. Competing in the Women’s 3000m steeplechase, Emily finished 4th in a new personal best of 10.55. Meanwhile the Harriers were out competing as part of the combined Yeovil and Wells team on the Saturday, at the Southern Athletics League; and on the Sunday at the South West League Division One; whilst another small squad of Harriers went and competed in the Quantock Beast on the Sunday and came away with the men's team award

Come and give it a go! - open to all within the Club, and those training with the Harriers, or thinking of training with the Harriers on a Tuesday evening :Competition evening (but will still act as a good training session). 3 events for everyone to participate in:
A: 3K run on grass
b: 200m sprint on the track
C: 800m on the track
* There will be around a 10 minute break between each event.
* Times will be age/gender graded and the winner will be the person with the best average % for the 3 events.
Group warm up after registration track side at 6.30pm.Organised by Jon James and Harrier coaches
Note parking for track sessions over summer is at the main school car park and walk/jog through the main school - allow an extra 5-10 minutes..
South West Athletics Championships - several Harriers named in Somerset County team: please confirm by July 5th

The initial selection for the Somerset County AA team to compete at the SW Track & Field Championships on Sunday July 19th at Exeter Arena has been made. The full details of selected athletes by event, and the timetable, are available for all to see on the County AA website at http://www.somerset-athletics.co.uk/track%20and%20field.htm
Please check if your name is on there and follow the instructions for confirming whether you can or cannot compete asap and preferably by July 5th. If your name isn't on the list but you think it should be please contact the team manager, and those who want to compete at the Championships and have attained the required standard - see http://www.sw-athletics-academy.co.uk/info-press/ then please go ahead and enter following the instructions on the website.
