On Saturday, Simon and Katrina took the journey to London, Richmond to then make the journey by foot to Brighton totalling 62.2 miles. Taking in selected highlights of Croydon, West Sussex, East Sussex and finishing on the South Downs at Brighton race course. Simon and Katrina reached half way in around 5hr 30min, but the second half was far more hilly which showed in their finishing time of 13hrs 19 min. Katrina's comments during the race when asked how she felt was "sore" lol. If anyone is thinking of doing a ultra, this one has it all. You can even have a cooked meal at half way (if you can stomach it!) and the best marked course we have ever ran. Their reason for running this distance so far outside their comfort zone was Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of Clive Thomas. With well over 600 runners across all four of the races held on Sunday May 24th as part of the Wells Fun Runs, this year's event was an undoubted success. The weather was good for running and there were enthusiastic athletes and supporters out. The Harriers swept the prize board for most of the events and the many award categories. Kieran Young won the 10km race in 34.21 with Clare Prosser first woman home in 39.05. For the 5km race Alex Williams was first home in 17.44 with Elena Sidman first female in 19.37. Provisional results are now available - click on the link bottom right to see them. Our thanks to the volunteer race committee, led by local Race Director Andrew Deamer, for such a good community event. The Harriers are proud to support these races with all proceeds going to local groups and charities. Any unattached runners who want to come and train with the Harriers are most welcome - see tab above about Club training sessions. There was a particularly good showing by the new Up & Running Beginners group that raced in the 5km event. Congratulations to all of the competitors in all of the races.
