There was some great running by the 146 competitors in the 7.5 mile road race and also some enthusiastic racing by the juniors in the accompanying races. Juniors should think about joining the Harriers for running, jumping & throwing training at our Monday evening sessions at Millfield Track 6pm-7pm. (Age 8-15). Runners of all ages should think about coming and competing at the Harrier supported Butleigh Multi-terrain race on Sunday March 11th (11.30am start) or at the Club organised monthly Street 5k & junior races on Wednesday March 14th (7.30pm start). All details on the Calendar or on the tabs above for training opportunities with the club.

National Cross Country Championships

There was some great running at the National Cross-country championships held at Parliament Hill, London, on Saturday February 25th. Frank Tickner was 4th for the senior men, with brother Ben in 11th; whilst Oliver Fox was 11th in the u15 boys race and Isobel Glaisher was best for the girls with 13th place in the u15 girls race.

 

Glorious sunshine greeted the huge fields of runners assembled from Clubs from across the country. This was the 125th running of the senior Championships and the English Cross Country Association can be proud to have so many runners out competing at these prestigious Championships.

Wells Fun Run date confusion

According to newspaper articles, there is some confusion about the proposed date for the 2012 Wells Fun Run.  This has been caused by a clash of bookings for Wells Market Place over the Bank Holiday period.  We will keep you informed when we know more from the local organising committee. Meanwhile there is another Harrier supported race coming up - on Sunday March 11th at Butleigh. See Calendar for details of how to enter this local community race. The next Harrier organised event is the Street 5k race on Wednesday March 14th.

Fantastic running at the Gwent Cross-Country League at Brecon

Thirty Two Harriers made their way to Brecon for the fourth round of the Gwent League cross country on Saturday February 11th. All were expecting (and were suitably dressed for!) very cold conditions, frozen ground and maybe even snow. However, we were greeted with glorious warm 'springlike' sunshine and a stunning blue sky. Although parts of the course were pretty muddy by the end of the day for the men's race, the course was quick with some very competitive races across the ages. The team again had an excellent set of performances, and we await confirmation of where that leaves us going into the final fixture next month.

Babcary & Butleigh races coming up

The Wells City Harrier supported races at Babcary and Butleigh are coming up in the next 4 weeks. The Babcary race over a 7.5mile undulating road course is first up on Sunday February 26th, and then the Butleigh multi-terrain race over a near-on 7 miles takes place on Sunday March 11th.
