Boxing Day triumph by the Harriers at Poole

From our racing correspondent Simon Prior: At the Boxing Day Poole 'Round the Lakes 10k' & junior races, the Harriers team assembled demonstrated that they continue to be a force in the South, with both the veterans and juniors all showing they can make a great team.
To start the day off, in the junior race, two of our top juniors Luke Prior and Oliver Dickinson were 1st and 2nd - upsetting the local favourites with some great running. Then in the main 10k race we saw Wells turn up in force up at the front end with 3 of our top runners mixing it with the big boys Matthew Dickinson, Jon James, and Jack Bancroft, with all three finishing top ten.
The first half of the race saw Matt, Jon & Jack all running shoulder to shoulder, then Jon and Matthew pushed on in the second half with Matthew winning a sprint finish against his team-mate in a time of 33.03 for 3rd overall, with Jon James 33.04 for 4th and 1st vet, and Jack Bancroft 7th in 33.58. These 3 won the team prize and had good back up from James Sewry in 14th in 36.27 and with Pete Darton next in 38.39 for 38th; and Jon Rowe and Simon Prior pacing each other in 42.49. Next in, setting a new pb, was Stephen Dickinson in 44.45. A good day for Wells at 'round the lake' or was it run through the lakes looking at the puddles?.

Great racing at the 141st edition of the Street 5k

The 141st edition of the Street 5km road races saw the Harriers Jon James and Charlotte Baker win for the men and the women on the coldest night so far in the series this autumn & winter. There was also some great running by the Juniors: Harriers swept the board with Rachel Packard and William Carr winning the 1km race; and Alex Williams and Connie Little winning the 2km race.

Top Running at Blaise Castle Cross Country match by 49 Harriers

There were 49 Harriers out competing at the latest of the Gwent League cross-country matches this past Saturday, December 1st, at Blaise Castle in Bristol. Conditions were cool and not too muddy by comparison to some courses of late. There was excellent running by all that toed the start line, and outstanding performances by many, including Sam Sommerville’s and Isobel Glaisher’s outright wins in the u15 boys and u17 women’s races respectively.

Harriers in top 6 at McCain National XC Series

There was some great running by Harriers competing in the 2nd of the season's national McCain cross-country Challenge matches held at Liverpoool this past Saturday, November 24th. Our former national XC Champion, Frank Tickner, in the senior mens race finished 6th and that position was emulated by the talented Sam Somerville in the u15 boys race.Emily Smith, Luke Prior, Matthew Dickinson and Oliver Fox also had good runs and Luke & Matthew will now be high in the overall series rankings.
Harrier winners in Somerset Series 2012 at Brent Knoll race: "Mud: it was lovely! "

Katrina Prior was one of four Harriers to gain Somerset Series awards at the presentations held immediately after the Brent Knoll Fell race this past Sunday. Katrina was 3rd overall (2nd F35) for the Series which is based on the best 8 performances over the 17 race Series. Carol Buckland was 4th overall in the women's rankings and was 1st F45 overall. Graham Goldsmid was 6th overall in the men's rankings and picked up 3rd V50 award, whilst not to be outdone Cath Goldsmid was 7th overall for the ladies and picked up 2nd F45.The Harriers also had Pat Challis well up in the Series this year, just outside of the top ten women. Well done all!
