Andrew wins at Baltonsborough Road Race with other great performances by large squad of Harriers young & old

There was a good turn out by Harriers and other runners from the locality, and from Clubs further afield, in support of the local Charity run - once again race directed by Harrier Kay Franklin - in Baltonsborough. Andrew Hennessy returned to his home village to win (again) with numerous Harriers also winning age group prizes. The junior race was also very competitive. Read on for link to full race results. A call for those members who want to be considered for the regional relays – contact coaches asap – and news of the Yeovil Games coming up.
Harry runs for TeamGB, whilst Jon wins silver at Masters Championships and a host of Harriers compete at the County Championships – last call for Baltonsborough Road race entries.

It has been a good week for juniors and seniors competing at track & field.
17 year old Harry Barton made his debut for TeamGB when competing at 110m Hurdles in Manchester, whilst Jon James was 2nd at the British Masters Championships over 1500m, and a whole host of mainly juniors competed at the Somerset County Athletics Track & Field Championships held in Yeovil.

17 year old Harry Barton becomes the 10th Wells City Harrier member to be selected for TeamGB and will compete at 110m Hurdles for the British team this Thursday (19th August) in Manchester at a prestigious international event. Meanwhile, Senior Club coach Jon James has been posting another impressive 5km time to go further ahead in the national rankings for his age group (V55) and a host of Harriers are getting ready for the Somerset County Championships this coming weekend (21st/22nd August).

No doubt many Harriers, and others, have been watching the excellent TV sports coverage from Tokyo this past few weeks? With a number of new sports to get enthusiastic over and now this week's athletics, it's been quite a feast for the armchair audience. Meanwhile a number of Harriers have continued to compete or train hard this week - some great performances by juniors at last Sunday's South West League match and an enthusiastic group of senior Harriers at the Haselbury Trail Race on Wednesday. Wells City Harrier members have again been out competing at a range of athletic disciplines this past week. U18 Harry Barton won gold (again) – this time at the South West Track & Field Championships, whilst the Harrier senior mens team were first at the Parrett 10km Multi-terrain, and a squad of the Club’s runners dominated at the various Frome road races. Club Treasurer Sharon Bowles even found time to run a 100km trail run ‘Race to the Stones’ in the heat over the weekend. Phew! Read on for info on next Wednesday’s (28th July) pub run too.
