These past few weeks has seen some excellent individual and team performances by the Harriers competing on the road. First, we had some great running at the London Marathon by Christian & Melissa, and at the Loch Ness Marathon by Andrew, and then a week later the senior men’s & u17 men’s teams finished top 50 at the National Road Relays in Birmingham. All this augurs well for the imminent Cross-country season! Meanwhile, the finishing touches are just being made to re-launch the Street 5k Series after a gap due to Covid, with the first race this Series due to take place on Wednesday 10th November. Wells City Harriers have been excelling at Regional and Local competition this past few weeks with the headlines being made by the great team performances at the Midland Road Relays on Saturday 25th which saw the Senior Men (team of 6) finish 13th and the u17 men’s team (of 3) finish 15th. Both qualify for the National Road Relays.
Other Harriers were in action at the local Uphill to Wells Relay, winning their class whilst the previous weekend saw a whole squad of Harriers have good runs at the Glastonbury Levels 10k with a number of juniors performing well at the Yeovil Games, where the 20-year partnership between the Harriers and the Olympiads was celebrated. Jon & Chris race for England Masters Teams whilst Paul completes another Southern Fell Championships

Whilst a host of Harriers competed at the local Ash multi-terrain race, Jon James, Chris Walker & Paul Chadwick were in action this past weekend further away. Jon was 4th overall 1st V55 at an event that incorporated the prestigious Masters 10k Championships held at Kew Gardens, when representing the England V55 team. Chris Walker also ran in the half-marathon version for an England V45 team at Kew and finished in 83 minutes after taking the wrong turning. Paul ran in the South of England Fell Running Championships on the Isle of Wight, finishing 20th overall for 4th V60. There was some good running by Harriers young and old this past weekend with Sophie Nicholls & Hannah Blundy taking top honours when competing at the UK School Games, whilst Christian Green won the Bridgwater Half in a new pb.
