Wells City Harrier members have been competing at both the National and European level this past week. Whilst some of the junior members were selected for the Somerset Schools team competing at the prestigious English Schools Championships in Manchester, another was part of theTeamGB squad that competed in Estonia. Elise Thorner finished 8th in the 3000m Steeplechase at the European u23 Athletics Championships in Tallinn, whilst Harry Barton is now the English Schools Senior boys Champion for 110m Hurdles. There were also good runs by Hannah Blundy & Sophie Nicholls at the same Championships. Meanwhile Andrew & Gill Tindal had a great weekend competing at the Saunders Lakeland Mountain Marathon - fabulous hill running! Read on....

Elise Thorner is now in Estonia getting ready for her 3000m Steeplechase event at the European u23 Championships whilst a handful of other Harriers are packing their bags to go as part of the Somerset Schools team to take part in the English Schools Championships. Meanwhile this past weekend has seen a whole host of great performances by Harriers of all ages – 10 to 60+ - in the whole range of athletic disciplines: track & field; road & fell racing; & also junior park-running setting new records!

20 year old Wells City Harrier Ollie Thorner finished 6th in the senior men’s decathlon at last weekend’s (25th-27th June) British Athletics Track & Field Championships held in Manchester. Whilst this last Wednesday (30th June) Elise Thorner heard that she had been selected to compete for TeamGB in the 3000m Steeplechase at the European U23 Championships to be held in Tallinn, Estonia, commencing at the end of next week. Meanwhile Harriers of all ages have continued to train hard at the Club’s various sessions, with a number of new members joining us this past month. Read on for the Tuesday night training plan where members have a choice of track-based or grass-based sessions.

Wells City Harrier 17 year old Harry Barton came away with the 110m Hurdles silver medal after an excellent performance in the England Athletics Track & Field Championships for u20 & u23 age groups held last weekend (20th June) at Bedford. No wonder he picked up the County Schools Gold the previous weekend (12th June), where a number of other Harrier juniors were also in competition and achieving personal bests.
Meanwhile the Harrier juniors and seniors have been enjoying being back at the Millfield track facility on Mondays and Tuesdays since sessions resumed there on 14th June. Read on for news of all results and more photos.
