Andrew Piper came away with the prestigious Club ‘Bog Seat’ award for his winning performance this past year – given to the Harrier who has achieved the most amusing error or mistake during the year. Read on for why he won it and who else ran him close.
Meanwhile, those of us who never make a mistake (?), will be aiming to get to the December edition of the Street 5k (& accompanying junior 1k & 2k) races on Wednesday 8th December. Read on for details and make sure you bring your race number with you if you entered last month’s race. Some of us also save on Xmas spending by running a good race where everyone gets a Christmas Pudding, and we feel good about the entry fee going to charity, so sign up for the Baltonsborough 5 mile race on the 12th December in advance to avoid being a humbug.

Jon James takes top billing this week for his British Masters Championship winning run over 5km. Jon was well clear of his main rivals in the V55 age group at the finish and worked hard throughout the race to win Championship Gold. He then followed that up with the top age group placing at last weekend’s Gwent XC League – that’s some consistency! Over 50 Harriers have booked for the Club's Annual Dinner. Read on for reports from Gwent & Wessex Leagues, and from a lovely little fell race on Dartmoor. Please note that entries are now open for the County & SW XC Championships….

It was good to see so many old & new faces at the latest of the Street 5k & junior 1k & 2k races this Wednesday (10th November). The race was number 187 in a sequence extending back to 1989 – we have now begun the 32nd season after a slight delay due to Covid. For some it was the first time they’d raced since the last Street 5k held in March 2019 – the week before we went into hibernation! (for the first time). Michael Parrott of Running For Time came and truly smashed his own personal best for 5k with a winning time of 16.10, whilst Daisy Barker made the journey over from Salisbury for her winning run of 17.49. Linda Lascelles (Vegan Runners) broke the course F55 record. There were 101 finishers in the 5k race with runners from across the County and beyond making the effort to take part.
Meanwhile the juniors weren’t to be outdone with their efforts in the 1k & 2k races seeing winning runs by Jamie Williams, Eva Dowden, Jasmine Gascoigne & Nnaemeka Nwagbogu – all from the Harrier junior section.

There was some great running by the Harriers at the past weekend’s Cross-country fixtures. (Saturday & Sunday 17th & 18th October). Harrier members of all ages from both the Monday & Tuesday night Harrier training groups that train at Millfield track, and the Tuesday night groups that train at the Yeovil Arena (Harrier members by virtue of our 20-year partnership with Yeovil Olympiads) took part.
For some, this was their first outing in the Harrier vest; for others they were clocking up 20 years plus of Harrier running! Many thanks to all team managers.
Read on for full report and an update on the Street 5k Series – need to enter in advance - no entry on the night.
