Silver for Tickner at Southerns!
Wells City Harrier’s Ben Tickner earned the silver medal at the prestigious South of England Cross Country Championships on Saturday January 29th with a storming run on the 15km course at Parliament Hill, Hampstead Heath. In a field of almost 1000 competitors drawn from across the area from Norfolk to Cornwall, Ben produced his best ever performance at these Championships, improving on his 10th place finish of last year. His time of 48.40 across the mud and hills was just 17 seconds down on the winner Neilson Hall of Southend, who won for the second year in succession.

Wells City Harrier’s 20 year old Laura Parker competed for Team England in an international cross-country match on Saturday in Antrim, Northern Ireland, and was the second England team member home. In a match that saw the Wells athlete up against top TeamGB runners like Charlotte Purdue and Louise Damen, Laura ran well and finished in overall 9th place beating a number of select athletes from the home countries and other European nations into the bargain. Laura’s time was 19.20 for the 5.6km course.

Congratulations to golden girl Laura Parker on winning the senior women's race on Sunday 9th January 2011 at Bicton Park. She beat off a late challenge from Holly Rush, whom she also beat in the recent Somerset championships.
