both winning the inaugural Brean Banger.
It’s been another action-packed week of outstanding performances for the Harriers, with golden success at the inaugural Brean Banger where Chris Green and Phoebe Aspinall both claimed victory, a strong showing at the Forde Abbey 10K with multiple age-category wins, impressive results at the South West Schools Track & Field Championships including podium finishes and English Schools selections, a national title for Harriet Scott at the Triathle Championships, international representation by Andrew Pate at the World Aquathlon Championships, and yet more PBs at the latest YOAC Evening Open. Well done to everyone who flew the Harriers flag.

Elise Thorner running to another PB at the Diamond League
Wells City Harrier Elise Thorner made an impressive Diamond League debut on 12th June, finishing 7th in the 3000m steeplechase at Oslo’s Bislett Games with a personal best of 9:15.06 – placing her 13th in the 2025 world rankings and 2nd on the UK all-time list. Elsewhere, Harriers were out in force at the Yeovilton 5K, where warm and windy conditions didn’t stop a string of personal bests. Paul Chadwick completed his sixth Oke Croak Fell Race on Dartmoor, and Hannah Blundy was first female at the Martock 10K. Meanwhile, junior Harriers shone at the Somerset Schools Championships with several podium finishes and new PBs across track and field events.

Pete Grist racing the 3000m at the National Athletics League Championship West
Wells City Harrier Elise Thorner delivered a sensational performance at the Sound Running Track Festival in Los Angeles on Saturday 24th May. The 24-year-old, fresh from altitude training in Arizona, smashed her personal best in the steeplechase with a time of 9:17.57—an 11-second improvement that met the automatic qualifying standard for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, moving her to 10th on the current world rankings and 3rd on the UK all-time list. Meanwhile, teammate Tom Webb set a new YOAC U20 club record at the BMC Birmingham meet with a stunning 5000m time of 14:27.36. Elsewhere, the Yeovil Olympiads impressed with a strong second-place finish at the National Athletics League Championship West fixture, while the Yeovil Open saw a flurry of personal bests and podium finishes across all age groups, highlighting the club’s depth of talent. Heath Hughes-Davies running his final XC race of the season
It’s been a busy and successful week for Wells City Harriers athletes across multiple events. At the Somerset Inter Area Cross Country Finals in Yeovil, Mendip runners shone, with Sage taking 2nd and Heath extending his unbeaten streak to 13 races while also winning the overall title in the Dave Jones Weston Prom Run series. Meanwhile, three Harriers — Eva Dowden, Bella Gurung, and Zac Dowden — have qualified to represent Great Britain at the European Championships following excellent results at the Pentathlon GB qualifiers. On the road, Zak Hurrell led the Yeovilton 5K Race 1, with Sophie Nicholls winning the women’s race and several runners earning personal bests. In Cardiff, Thomas Webb clocked a speedy 14:58 at the Race for Victory 5K while also representing England in a road 10K in Italy. Many Harriers took on the Great Bristol Run, battling warm conditions to post commendable times. Looking ahead, the Wells Festival of Running returns on 25th May, promising an exciting day of racing.
