Wells City Harriers can only exist with its band of volunteers. If you are a Club member, or a parent of one - what are you doing to help? There are some opportunities here again: decide to play your part - don't leave it to others.
The first opportunity is to attend a one-day course in officiating at Track & Field. the training takes place at Millfield School on Sunday 15th November and the deadline for you to book is 9th November - don't be late!. The Club pays your course fee. The Club will help you gain experence of officiating at its own regular competition nights on a Monday evening over the next year so that by next summer you can help out at some of the Club's League matches. Call/e-mail Paul for more information if in any doubt. Officiating can be fun and all the officials we work with are great company.
More details of course & booking at http://goo.gl/AUJ8l4 and a summary at the bottom of this article....
The second opportunity is for you to contribute to the coaching of juniors within the Club. Every Monday evening for over 20 years we have run sessions for youngsters from across the area - the sessions prove very popular with in excess of 50 youngsters some weeks. One of our longest serving coaches Lawrence Whitehead has now been coaching with us for over 15 years, and others like Graham Goldsmid and myself for well over 10 years. We'd like to re-structure sessions so that we can provide more time with smaller groups of athletes to help them develop to be even better athletes - to do that we need parents of junior athletes and senior Harriers to be prepared to be Assistant coaches, under the guidance of the senior coaches. There will be courses in the South-west of England in Spring 2016 when you can get qualified, but before then Paul & Graham can offer to help anyone interested in taking on this role to understand the principles of athletics coaching on a Monday evening and to shadow some of their sessions. Please contact Paul to express an interest and he and Graham will help to introduce you to the wonderful world of coaching!
For more information about volunteeering in these roles and others please take a look at the box of information bottom right 'Feel Inspired to Volunteer' and also take a look at the information directly on the England Athletics website at http://www.englandathletics.org/volunteers
