Baltonsborough 5 mile and Juniors 1.5 mile races 31st August 2015
The 21st annual set of races around the village lanes of Baltonsborough took place on Bank Holiday Monday With 65 finishers in the 5 mile road race and with the junior and fun run race distance of 1.5 miles attracting 35 runners which started immediately after the 5 mile race.Full results on the dedicated website at
Congratulations to Kieran Young and Clare Prosser, winners of the longer event and Dylan Dukes and Jemima Stillwell winners of the 1.5 miler.
Leading the juniors around the slightly undulating course was one of the Harrier's top juniors Dylan Dukes who set a very quick time of 8mins 48 secs well ahead of fellow Harriers Adam and Euan Lyall who finished 2ndand 3rd clocking 10:24 & 11:03. Jemina and Heidi Stillwell of Mendip AC were 1st and 2nd junior females in 11:29 and 12:16 with Lucy Jackson in 3rd place.
The 5 mile race brought together a field of 65 runners with many local clubs represented including Wells City Harriers, Yoevil Town Road Runners, Frome Athletic Club, Gillingham Trotters and Burnham on Sea Harriers. Despite a damp start to the day, favourable running conditions saw Wells Harrier Keiran Young scorch round the rural course in 27mins .07 secsover a minute clear of second placed V40 Kieron Summersfrom Burnham with Wells Alex Wiltshire 3rdclocking 28:41.
Clare Prosser was the leading female with winning time of 31mins 42secs and vet35 ahead of Fez Parker of Yeovil who clocked 34:01, with vet45 Carol Buckland taking 3rd female award.
Back on his home patch was Andrew Hennessy in 4th place whose earlier inspirations helped establish the origins of this village race clocking a sub 30 minute time he headed home 5thplace Wells regular Oliver Prosser also sub 30 minutes in 29:59.
Other Wells finishers included; 13th Mike Bosley 34:53, 14thPaul Knight 35:04, 20th Tony Watts 38:51, 21st Jonathan Rowe 38:52 and in 23rd Pete Wright 39:16.
Presentations and prizes were made by the Chairman of the Baltonsborough Branch of the Royal British Legion MartynUnderdown. TheBaltonsborough Royal British Legion kindly donated a perpetual cup for the first male and female in the five mile race, as well as providing the vouchers for the junior race.
