Wells City Harriers

"A FRIENDLY RUNNING CLUB THAT WELCOMES ATHLETES OF ALL AGES AND ABILITIES"

Long ago - back in 1988 -  the Harriers started to organise the monthly 5km road race around Street. The inaugural Race Director and instigator, Clive Thomas, designed a lapped circuit in the middle of Street and the races, as always were held every 2nd Wednesday of the month between October and March. On Wednesday March 12th we will be holding the 150th edition of the races as we come to the end of our 25th Series. Will you be coming to join us?

Over the years we have changed the course ever so slightly - it used to be 4 laps of a slightly longer circuit - but when it was pointed out that there might be clash with the local Fire Station having to send appliances out in answer to a call, we changed the course to avoid that road and in effect it became the 5 lapper that we all know. We have also changed the HQ venue over the years as we used to use Royal Victoria Club for a few seasons, but now we are very grateful for the United Reformed Church permitting us use of their Church Hall. In all the 25 years we can only recall postponing the event once due to bad weather (ice on the course) and that month's event was re-scheduled for the following week.

We have had some great competition over the years, and some fantastic times, and we have always catered for all abilities and fitness levels with some runners using the event as a monthly time-trial to see how their fitness is improving. The course records (as far as we know) are below for any to check - please advise us if we have missed any record time over the 149 previous editions! Last years King & Queen of Street (Series) were Paul Maskell and Charotte Baker - who will be crowned on March 12th? We will also have the technical T-shirts for those who have completed 5 of the races this season. We will also award series prizes for the 1km and 2km races.
