Back-to-back races over the Bank Holiday weekend saw many Wells Harriers taking part in the local races at Langport and then at Baltonsborough.
Sunday’s Battle of Sedgemoor 10k and fun runs held in Langport incorporated the Association of Running Clubs Championship attracting a large field of over 300 runners representing many South West clubs. Bideford AAC dominated the leading positions with the winning time of 30.23 by Kevin Heywood reflecting a high quality field around the 10k flat, fast course. 13 members completed the event with Alistair Lindsay (3rd V40) in 10th place clocking 36.24 as the leading Harrier. There were several category awards with Clive Harwood 28th (1st V60) in 39.00, Rebecca Carver (44.10) 1st junior female, Hayley Carver 3rd junior female, and Katrina Prior 3rd FV35.

1st Girls team was won by Harriers; Megan Rusca, Louise Rusca, Kathleen Cox-Thompson & Tilly Cox-Thompson (and all ran again at Baltonsborough!);1st overall Luke Prior (who also won junior race at Baltonsborough)1st u9 girl Tilly Cox-Thompson;3rd u11 girl Kathleen Cox-Thompson; 1st u13 girl Louise Rusca; 2nd u15 girl Megan Rusca

Baltonsborough 5 mile Road Race followed on the Bank Holiday Monday. Honours went to Wells junior Matthew Dickinson who completed the 5 mile circuit in a formidable 26.42 to win from Kieran Young of Bristol &West AC (27.54) with an excellent run from another Wells junior Curtis Stevens in 3rd place clocking 29.42. Matthew is currently ranked 4th nationally for the u17s over the 5km road distance.Congratulations to Harriers Kay & David Franklin for organising this race
First four home in the junior race at Baltonsborough- in fact the Harriers had 10 home in the first dozen!
Nick Somerville ( 31.32) in 6th place headed up numerous Harriers who competed including 8th S.Prior 31.45, 12th S.Higgs 32.57, 23rd R.Whitcombe 35.45, 24th S.Dickenson 35.47, 27th M.Brown 36.26, 33rd P.Wright 37.47, 34th E.Milln 38.18 (First FV 45), 38th C.Moir 39.02, 54th R.Phelps 45.04, 55th S.Jones 45.04, 60th H.Carver 47.24, 62nd J.Durds 49.03.

All Harriers of any age from 11 upwards are reminded that team entries for the prestigious South of England road races (at Aldershot) get submitted next week (Sept 5th) - plesae let team managers/coaches know if you want to compete on Saturday Sept 21st (juniors & women) or Sunday Sept 22nd (senior and veteran men)
