Butleigh Multi Terrain 2023
Sunday 16th April saw a large gathering of runners at the playing fields pavilion to participate in the annual multi terrain race.
There were just shy of 100 taking part proof of the popularity this long-standing event now approaching 40 years old, attracting numerous local athlete’s and running clubs including Yeovil Town, Burnham on Sea and Wells Harriers who were all well represented.
Weather conditions on the day were good for the 10 km course though the added challenge of some very muddy sections tested the endurance of many runners.
The clear winner was Wells City Harrier Matt Lusby who finished in just under 40 minutes with George Mallinson of Belgrave RC second in a time of 42.40. In third place was another Wells runner Oliver Frost who also the leading Veteran 40.
The winning Lady was Joanna Carritt (FV35) who clocked an impressive time of 50.54 was in 20th place overall, with Butleigh’s Beth Corfield as second placed lady in a time of 52.48 after a close race with Holly Jones in third 53.04.
There was a wide spread of age groups across the entire field with a large number of veteran runners out of the finishers there were 53 males and 44 females.
Amongst the Butleigh finishers were Mark Wills 45.50 placed 8th, Alistair Corfield 59.59, James Fielder 63.54 and Bobbie White 88.01.
The event relies totally on the support and time of many locals to cover all aspects of the race including organising, marshalling, first aid and catering in conjunction with Butleigh Playing Field Association. So a huge thanks goes to all who made it happen.
The race proceeds going towards the up-keep of the Butleigh Playing Fields facility.
