There was some great road racing over the Bank Holiday weekend with Harriers involved at the Battle of Sedgemoor 10k race on Sunday, and then the Baltonsborough 5 mile road race on the Monday. Results from the Baltonsborough races are here:

At Sunday’s (August 24th) Battle of Sedgemoor 10k road race from Langport, a large field of over 270 finished the race and there were several Wells Harriers amongst the runners. First home for the Harriers was 18 year old Philip Bridge in10th place with a 35.03 clocking from the fast flat circuit. Tom Dukes was close behind in 13th with 35.20, and then Mike Rusca 46th in 41.15, and Paul Chadwick 53rd in 42.00. Steph Moss was 84th in 45.12, and then Michelle Blackmore in training for further triathlons in 117th with a 48.00 clocking. In the accompanying junior race over 1.5 milers, Harrier Dylan Dukes ran away from the rest of the field to claim victory. Three of the senior Harriers went on to compete again the following day....

On Monday, 25th, the Baltonsborough 5 mile road race was organised in conjunction with the annual Bank Holiday Baltonsborough Show and with support from the British Legion and local sponsors the Train Station, Village Community Association  and Framptons Ltd, saw 14 Harriers taking part in what was one of the wettest races in recent years.

The junior race of 1.5 miles saw success for Harrier Alex Williams who was well clear in a time of 8mins 34 seconds, with one of the Harrier’s Monday juniors Charlie Wadman 3rd in 11.13.

In the 5 mile race Wells Harriers Nathan and Kieran Young again led the field home with Nathan winning by over 3 mins  in 25.30 from his brother’s 28.51 in 2nd place both clocking sub 30 minutes around the relatively flat course with James Williams securing 5th place and leading junior in a superb time of 30.38. Mike Rusca (33.13) in 12th place headed a close trio of Wells veterans including Peter Clothier (33.19) 15th, Paul Chadwick (34.02) 18th  and Rex Whitcombe (36.42) in 25th position.

Carol Buckland in 28th was third female overall with a time of 37.08 other Harrier finishers included Megan Rusca 35th and leading junior ( 38.09) , Michelle Blackmore 36th ( 38.34), Louise Williams 40th ( 39.54), Pete Wright 41st ( 40.34), Simone Young 60th ( 45.27), Simon Jones 67th (46.50).
