Wells City Harriers

"A FRIENDLY RUNNING CLUB THAT WELCOMES ATHLETES OF ALL AGES AND ABILITIES"

It was nail-biting stuff. Could the Wednesday nighters or the Monday nighters make sure they came away with the trophy from the Harriers inaugural skittles competition at the George Inn, Croscombe? Or would the Tuesday nighters, who it had been rumoured had been secretly practising, end up taking the prize?

It was obvious to all that some of the skittlers were so talented that they could swerve all three of the balls through the maze of pins without knocking any of them down. "How did they do that?" was the refrain from the assembled masses. Others had perfected the bouncing balls technique to such an art that it was more like a bouncing bomb by the time it approached the pins.

Some went for brute strength (& speed); others for the scientific angled approach; whilst others gently glided the balls down to take out the 'hidden' back pin whilst leaving the front rows standing. By the end of the evening most were none the wiser as to the best approach, but the Tuesday nighters did indeed edge it, and I think they said they'd buy the drinks at the next match.....

Many Thanks to Tracey for the organising, Peter the landlord, and the whole team present for an enjoyable evening.

Next social  event is next Wednesday July 31st with a social run from the Wells Golf club. See calendar to the left for details.
