The last couple of months have seen Wells City Harriers members out and about in a number of races. If you take part in a race then please write a brief report and send it through to Bob the webmaster for inclusion on the website. If you have a photograph from the race even better! Masters Road Relays : Birmingham : Saturday 18th May
Ably managed by Simon Prior, two Veteran teams from Wells competed at the National Vet road relays in Sutton Park.
First off round the 3 mile circular course were the Female V 35 team New club member Jill Harrison ran leg 1 in a fast time of 19.20 handing over to Katrina Prior who ran leg 2 in 20.54 Leg 3 was run by Julia Dukes in 25.47 Injuries and withdrawls meant Katrina Prior had to also run the last leg in a time of 21.46 to bring the Ladies team home in a final position of 17th.
Withdrawls and injuries to the Mens V 35 team also meant that Manager Prior had to shuffle his 8 man team pack First off on leg 1 in a time of 16.43 was ever improving Tom Dukes then Tim Hawkins who ran leg 2 in 16.12, next on leg 3 was Jon Gilling in 16.54 followed on leg 4 by Adrian Marriott in 15.20, Simon Prior ran leg 5 in 18.15, followed by Vet 50's Steve Masters in 17.27 on leg 6 and Graham Goldsmid in 18.37 on leg 7 with Steve Dickenson bringing the team home on leg 8 in a time of 20.14 to give the mens team a final place of 15th.Well done to all who took part and thanks to Simon Prior for organising the teams and Jon James for driving the mini bus.
On Sunday 19th May, the day after the Masters Road Relays, the Crewkerne 10k (Race 7 in Somerset Series) took place. First home for Wells over the demanding hilly road course was 17 year old junior Phillip Bridge who finished second in a great time of 37.32 followed by Graham Goldsmid (Just back from Birmingham!) in 9th place and first vet 50 in 41.30. Next home was junior Rebecca Carver 34th in 45.51, Vet 60 Colin Williams 46th in 48.07, Cath Goldsmid 62nd in 50.54, Adrian Bridge 77th in 53.09, and Hayley Carver 117th in 1.00.03. Congratulations also to Wells Junior Darcie Cook who came 10th in the 5k race.
Run in the Wild 10k/2k at Cricket St Thomas : Sunday 2nd June. Although not in the Somerset Series this year this tough multi terrain race in the grounds of Cricket St Thomas is always popular as competitors try and see if they can run the whole 10k course without stopping on the hills! The junior 3k course was won by Wells Junior Alex Williams in a time of 11.39.
In the main 10k race Kieran Young for Wells was a clear winner in 42.07, followed by Wells junior James Williams in 3rd place and a time of 47.47. New Wells member Damien Pick finished 12th in 48.47, Graham Goldsmid 14th in 49.20, Marcus Williams 19th in 50.44, Rebecca Carver 37th in 56.04, Cath Goldsmid 64th in 1.03.37, & Louise Williams 77th in 1.07.22.
Nine Springs 9k : Sunday 9th June
Race 8 in the Somerset Series
The Williams family were out in force again for this demanding 2 lap Multi terrain race in Yeovil. First home for Wells in 5th place was James Williams in a time of 38.45, followed by Damien Pick 8th in 39.38, Super Vet 60 Clive Harwood 12th in 40.09 just beating Graham Goldsmid 13th in 40.12, Marcus Williams was 35th in 43.34, Colin Williams 50th in 46.20, Catherine Goldsmid 70th in 50.07, & Louise Williams 91st in 53.42. In the shorter 2k race Alex Williams won again in a time of 7.16 followed closely by Wells Monday junior Luke Macpherson who was 3rd in 7.52
Yeovilton 5k series Race 3 : Wednesday June 12th. A huge turn out by Wells athletes at the ever popular 5k race held on the second Wednesday of each month (April - September) This fast flat course is the place to for a pb.
The evening started with Wells Junior Dylan Dukes winning the junior fun race in a time of 4.20 followed by fellow Wells junior William Carr who was 4th in 5.03.
