From our racing correspondent Simon Prior: At the Boxing Day Poole 'Round the Lakes 10k' & junior races, the Harriers team assembled demonstrated that they continue to be a force in the South, with both the veterans and juniors all showing they can make a great team.
To start the day off, in the junior race, two of our top juniors Luke Prior and Oliver Dickinson were 1st and 2nd - upsetting the local favourites with some great running. Then in the main 10k race we saw Wells turn up in force up at the front end with 3 of our top runners mixing it with the big boys Matthew Dickinson, Jon James, and Jack Bancroft, with all three finishing top ten.
The first half of the race saw Matt, Jon & Jack all running shoulder to shoulder, then Jon and Matthew pushed on in the second half with Matthew winning a sprint finish against his team-mate in a time of 33.03 for 3rd overall, with Jon James 33.04 for 4th and 1st vet, and Jack Bancroft 7th in 33.58. These 3 won the team prize and had good back up from James Sewry in 14th in 36.27 and with Pete Darton next in 38.39 for 38th; and Jon Rowe and Simon Prior pacing each other in 42.49. Next in, setting a new pb, was Stephen Dickinson in 44.45. A good day for Wells at 'round the lake' or was it run through the lakes looking at the puddles?.
