There were two WCH junior girls competing at the Prep Schools National Championships held at a blustery Malvern whilst another two boys from the Harrier team were competing in the Independent Schools Associations Championships at Rugby. They all ran really well and one of them is now a Champion!
Following the heavy rain the course at Malvern was a classic xc with steep banks, hills and fast sweeping bends on a flat finish. Victoria McCabewas running for All Hallows in the U 11 girls race and finished a superb 24th in a field of over 260 runners. Lucy Baldwin also ran a great race in the u13 race and it was neck and neck for the lead throughout the race. Eventually she just lost out in the final run to the finish but 2nd in a field of 160 runners was still a great effort. Victoria & Lucy have both been regulars at our Monday junior training sessions for some time.
For the Boys, from the Yeovil cross country training group, and running for the Yeovil Park School at Rugby, James Bridge ran a superb u13 boys race to pull away from the field with a fellow athlete, and then outsprinted his rival in the final 300m to win the race. Then his elder brother Philip ran against athletes up to two years older than him to finish a steady 5th and set himself up for his main target which is in a few weeks time as Philip, as well as James and Lucy have been selected to run for Somerset schools at the forthcoming English Schools XC Championships to be held on March 17th at Ilton. We will have a separate item on this later in the week as there are almost 20 members of the Harrier cross-country team selected in the various age groups.
Well done to all 4 athletes.
