15 Harriers toed the start line at the tough Brent Knoll Fell race on Sunday and all performed well over the hilly 5.7 mile course.

The 124 competitors ran out along the rynes from the Burnham Areas Sports Club through the village of Brent Knoll and then with two steep climbs up to the Knoll itself for fantastic views before plunging back down for the finish back at BASC. After the race the Somerset Series awards were madeFirst home for the Harriers was 15 year old Matthew Dickinson, making his debut at this sort of race and finishing in 4^th place with an excellent time of 40.05. 2^nd in for the Harriers was another good run by new member Dan Humphries with his 18^th place in 45.45, followed by Simon Prior, 23^rd, in 47.02. Rex Whitcombe did enough to just stay ahead of Paul Chadwick in 30^th and 31^st positions with clockings of 48.42 and 48.53 respectively..

First home for the Harrier women was Katrina Prior in 41^st place, 51.23, whist Rebecca Carver was 1^st junior girl in the race in 47^th place, 52.47. New signing Colin Williams was 1^st V60 home in 59^th place in a time of 54.27 Tracey Halliday was 3^rd Harrier woman home in 65^th place and 1st F45, 56.43.

85^th Nick Edwards 61.57; 94^th Laura Darby-Jones 64.24; 98^th Hayley Carver 65.42; 111^th Mary Harrington 71.48; 116^th Caroline Moule 75.48; 121^st Jenny Adams 81.20. Mary and Caroline are now in training for the 2012 London Marathon and we hope all is going well for that.

After the race the awards for the Somerset Series 2012 were made and Harriers once again swooped to secure a number of prizes. We provided the overall Women's winner in the form of Jenny Moore (her 6th victory in the 16 years of the Series), and we also had Katrina Prior as 2nd overall and 1st F35. Tracey Halliday had a good series for 6th amongst the women (2nd F45) and Kay Franklin and Jenny Adams both featured in the Series results.

For the men Nathan Young (B&W) was 1st overall, with Mark Wills of Yeovil Town in 2nd, and Kieran Young (B&W) 3rd. Colin Williams who has recently joined the Harriers was 1st V60 once again. Well done to all competitors this year in the Series (best 8 results out of the 16 Race Series count).

Looking ahead to 2012, the Harrier committee is looking for a Harrier volunteer to help coordinate our input to this Series. It was established by the Club back in 1996 and has been largely administered by Paul, Brian Beale (of Burnham Harriers) and Martin Chaffey (YTRR) since that date. It is a Series organised by the Clubs for athletes from across the County to promote friendly rivalry and jointly market 16 of the races that the Clubs promote.
