We are sorry to report that former Harrier Steve Padfield died this week in a road traffic incident close to Glastonbury. Steve was a popular member of the Harriers, taking part in many Club events and supporting his team-mates wherever possible. In addition to being a good runner, Steve was also a very keen cyclist. Our condolences to his family at this sad time.
For other news this week....
Club Members:
The first Street race in the year's Series takes place on Wednesday Oct 12th and more
volunteers from amongst the Club members are required to make sure it goes smoothly. This is the 23rd year of the Series. These races are the only ones that the Club derives any income from as all other local running events we support are for good causes. Please contact Paul Chadwick to advise him which of the 6 races you will be helping at.
Good luck to the Harrier teams competing in the next week: at the Gwent League tomorrow (9th) we have an intrepid band of seniors and junors making the trek to Bridgend to fly the flag for us. See below for the cross country team managers this season; next Saturday (15th) we have two teams competing at the Parret Trail Relay - one men's team, managed by Bob Powell; one women's team, managed by Helen Rutter; on Sunday 16th we have 1 senior team & 4 junior teams entered for the English Road Relays at Sutton Park, Birmingham. The junior teams going to Sutton Park are being managed by Simon Prior.
Get well soon to Anna Lewis (Womens team manager) who has recently broken bones in her foot again. This is all very frustrating to Anna and we hope she'll be back after a good period of repair and recovery of those bones.
Well done to Adrian Marriott for stepping up to manage the England team at the forthcoming Toronto Marathon. Adrian ran for the England team at this event a few years back and so will bring his direct experience to the task.
& Don't forget that Dave Stanfield is wanting as many articles/photos etc as possible for the new edition of the Harrier newsletter. Deadline was Friday 7th but if you contact him this weekend he may squeeze in your words!
