Wells City Harrier’s Deputy Chairman, Christian Green retained his Somerset Series overall Trophy after the final race of the Series held at Brent Knoll, near Burnham, on Sunday, 24th November. Chris gained the overall Trophy and an engraved Winners glass. Ed Stahl won the overall Series M40 engraved glass, whilst taking the Series 1st F55 trophy and engraved glass was the Harrier’s Karen Shears, whilst Andrew Piper was awarded the 2nd M50 glass for his efforts across the Series. Jenny Adams was 3rd F65in the Series and also received an engraved glass. The Series consisted of 23 races organised and supported by the local Running Clubs in Somerset across the calendar, with 8 races to count this year for the final standings. The Series was once again sponsored by the Cornwall Glass Company. BRENT KNOLL 5.75mile Fell Race

In the actual 5.75mile race from the Burnham Area Sports Club, along the rynes, through Brent Knoll village and up through the orchard and around the Knoll itself, Christian (35.51) was over 30 seconds quicker than his time last year when finishing 2nd to Weston AC’s Chris Macmillan who was almost 40 seconds clear at the finish. Ed Stahl was 1st V40 home in overall 10th place in a time of 41.54, with Andrew Piper 23rd in 46.02. Chairman Graham Goldsmid was 26th, 46.13; Craig Foley 34th 48.57; Paul Chadwick 36th 49.04; Carol Buckland 86th 59.25; Karen Shears 117th 67.38; Jenny Adams 146th 86.42. SOMERSET SERIES 2020 sponsored by Cornwall Glass

The Somerset Series 2020 will see the Clubs again working together with 23 races on offer across the calendar, including the 3 races sponsored in the Series by Wells City Harriers: the Babcary 7.5 mile road race on 23rd February; the Butleigh 10k multi-terrain race on 19th April and the Wells Fun Run 10k race on 31st May. To count in the Series, all runners have to complete at least 9 of the Series races next year. Local runners are invited to take part and can join the Harriers to train towards the races. The first race in the 2020 Series is on New Years Day when the Chard Flyer 10k race takes place – get your new year resolution going with a race! Dedicated website here.

CROSS COUNTRY COMING UP!

Final call for entries from Harriers for this Sunday’s (1st December) Somerset County XC Championships, held as part of the Tri-County Championships at the University of Bath. Enter on line in advance - See information here – no entries on the day. Al Thorner from the Monday coaches will be handing out the Championship race numbers & Simon Prior from the Harrier’s Tuesday coaches will be there. GOOD LUCK TO ALL TAKING PART ON SUNDAY!

Saturday 7th December at Blaise Castle, Bristol – Gwent League. Entry on the day. If a Harrier member then entry is free as have already paid the fees.

Sunday 15th December at Canford School – Wessex League (also the Dorset XC Championships for those eligible) – please let Team Manager Neil Biss know asap if you intend to compete. If a Harrier member then entry is free as we have already paid the fees. .

Sunday 5th January at Aldon Hill, Yeovil – South West XC Championships – deadline 23rd December Information and entry links here. Team managers for each of the age groups needed – parents please play your part – speak to Graham or Simon

Saturday 25th January at Parliament Hill, London – South of England XC Championships – deadline 20th December. No late entries. This is traditionally the really big regional Championships.
