Harrier Juniors and Veterans in action

At the South West School XC Championships held at Melksham there were some great results by Harrier juniors running in Somerset Schools vests in different age groups. Best performance on the day came from Charlie MacLean who was 4th in the Inter boys and from Laura Parker who was 6th in the senior girls. In the junior girls there were fine runs by Christie Jones, 20th, and by Jess Wood finishing in 47th.

Meanwhile in the minor boys Tristan Goldsmid was 33rd and Will Norris was 43rd. George Harris was 14th in the junior boys, giving away a year to most of those ahead of him and Tom Thick despite still struggling with injury was 57th.

In the Inter boys Alex Wiltshire returned a little more to form with a 16th place whilst Ben Venus ran steady for 34th.

Many of these juniors now look forward to the final Wessex XC League fixture on March 18th where they will collect team and individual awards for the Harriers. Athletes are reminded that the races are at Avon Country Park, near Poole, and that the timetable is different from usual and can be seen on the Harrier website.

The Harriers also hailed another national champion at the weekend when Dickie Wythe won Gold. Dickie continues to improve as he gets older and indicated this when he won the British Masters V50 Gold medal at the Indoor Athletics meeting held at Lea Valley last weekend. Dickie ran away from the field when he recorded 9.49 for 3,000m, almost 10 seconds ahead of Archie Jenkins from the North East. Dickie followed up his gold with a bronze in the 1500m in a time of 4.36.
