Harrier Juniors at SW League Division One, Exeter July 1st

There were some excellent performances by Junior Harriers again at the weekend when taking part in the South West League Division One fixture in Exeter as part of the combined team with Yeovil Olympiads. Pick of the day was undoubtedly the sprinting of u’13 Henry Brown who is getting faster with every race.

Henry will go to very near the top of the south west power of 10 athletics rankings with his 12.8 seconds in the 100m. He won the event after a slow start.  He also won the 200m event and will be at the top of the regional rankings with his time of 26.8. Not satisfied with these performances Henry then went on to win the long jump with his leap of 4.69m which will propel him into the top 3 in the region for this event.

Henry rounded his day off by pulling the relay team up from 5th place on the final handover to win the sprint relay. Henry is part of coach Jeremy DeQuidt’s sprints squad on a Monday evening at the junior Harrier training session.

For the girls, Roo Black again won the u’13 high jump defeating the top jumper in the region into the bargain. Roo jumped 1.35m to push Cornwall AC’s Alice Vage down into 2nd place on this occasion. Roo is currently in 3rd place on the SW rankings. Roo is coached mainly by Clive Thomas.

Also for the u’13 girls, Kayley Kennedy ran an excellent 2.47 to win the 800m at Exeter and this was a huge personal best by over 13 seconds. As a consequence she will move into the top 30 rankings in the South west with this time. She is already at 14th for the 1500m with 5.32 from May’s County Championships.

Tristan Goldsmid also competed well in the u’13 boys 1500m finishing 5th at Exeter, but a bit slower than his season’s best of 5.08 which is good enough for 14th on the current regional rankings. Tristan and Kayley are part of Graham Goldsmid’s middle distance squad.
