Croscombe Fun Run and Fun Day

The big day arrived, Saturday 12th July dawned cool and overcast, not a typical July summers day but ideal running weather. With the event nearly cancelled due to the lack of pre-registered runners the organisers thankfully received enough runners on the day to reach a respectable total of 20, 9 more than last year. Hopefully the run will now grow year on year.

The run was a multi-terrain event with the route crossing the fields above Croscombe giving beautiful views across the valley and the sleepy village thence it ran along the quiet country lanes into the picturesque hamlet of Dinder. From Dinder the route wound its way uphill and through the leafy glades of the woods adjacent to Wells golf course before emerging to open fields and a short section of country lane on the return leg. The run was won by Wells City Harrier Steve Masters in a time of 30.20, the first lady home was Sheila Lester in 48.22 and first local runner Richard Cronin in 44.16. All received prizes for winning their category and money raised was donated to Croscombe church clock and the Red Cross who attended as first aid cover.

As well as everyone commenting on what an enjoyable 5 mile run it was, it also coincided with the Croscombe fun day, this not only led to a better race atmosphere for the runners but also meant friends and family could enjoy the attractions of the show. So look out for next year’s event and enjoy a pleasantly demanding fun run or come along and support the fun day.

Thank you to all the runners that took part including members of the Wells City Harriers, thank you to all the support staff, marshals, Red Cross and anyone who gave up their time to make it a success.
